I recently bought an ITDOO with the hood cap, thinking that it was reversible on the summaron. It turns out that the hood is not reversible partly because it hits the focusing tab. I used to have a standard 39mm screw in hood, it was nice and cheap but not reversible. So...did Leica ever have a reversible hood option for the Summaron?

Have you try Leica 12585, 12585H or 12538 ( plastic) yet, Sam ? but I don't think any of those works due to the focus tab.

I believe I've once seen a 12585 with a gap sawed out allowing it to reverse mount it on the Summaron.

No, the 12585 (or any other that I know of) won't reverse without modification. One thing about the 2.8 Summaron: the front element is set back a bit, so if no filter is in use, then at times you can get away without a hood.

The original correct hood is IROOA but as mentioned above the tab will probably prevent reversing it.
To be honest although I have 12538 I've given up using it

Knowing the flare propensities for slightly older lenses (even though the summaron is actually pretty good at handling flare), I usually try to put a hood on everything. Although the look of an M8, grip, goggles, and ITDOO is sort of a slap in the face to the whole Leica aesthetic.
I just tried my 12585 and it didn't work. The combination of focusing tab and short barrel is a problem.

I´m using my summaron with the original IROOA hood, it´s very well made but not reversible due to the focusing tab.

May be a 12504 works as the MP Hammertone Limited Edition set

I use a step up ring for a hood and it works fine for most occasions (who shoots into the sun anyway?)
