I have a DuoScan and all the trays. I bought these new in 1998 or 1999. It operates through a SCSI card which I have installed still on a old Compaq computer with XP. (This set up was used with my Canon Fs2710 scanner). I installed the driver and software for the Duoscan on this computer, but it will not opeate due to a "unsupported software" or some such thing.

Before tossing it, I'm think that maybe some parts are salvageable for use with my V500 (or a V700 I plan to get later). I'm thinking glass is AN and could be salvaged. Maybe the film holders are sturdier than what I have now and could be cut down and used with one of the other scanners.

Anyone have any ideas? Per a suggestion here, I sometimes use the V500 without the holders, but have trouble keeping film flat. I'm think a piece of AN glass may hold it flat.

You might just not toss it and use it with VueScan instead, which should work with most SCSI scanners as long as you can get a SCSI card to work.

I should check into Vuescan. I assume they have free trial periods like others? It was an okay scanner for its day. I'm thinking it would be decent with my 4x5 negatives.

Vuescan's trial leaves a watermark but doesn't expire. Version 9.1 and later let you use a "basic" mode without leaving the watermarks, but I've had the license for so long I couldn't tell you how that works or how useful it is. I have read reports that Vuescan will install the drivers and you can then use other software, but it's hit or miss.

Well, before I destroy it, I'll give Vuescan a shot. I am an old model railroader kit basher...I was kinda lookin' forward to some sawing and gluing though.
