i'm not thinking about doing this...not too seriously anyway...i do strive for more simplicity in my life though...maybe it's the spring cleaning bug that has bit?!

I like the rx100 sooo much as a p&s...that I tend to pair it w/ just about any camera I have...
In the past I have been using two bodies and two lenses because I hate to change lenses in the field. I normally would have one body w/ a normal fov lens attached like a 40-60 fov as my main setup and a wide angle lens on the second body.
The rx100 is good enough as both a backup camera and as the normal second body camera, that I am tending to not carry that second body w/ wide angle as much as I used to.
So to answer your question Joe, rx1 or xe1 or xp1 or x100s paired w/ a rx100 works for me.

Ps btw. On your trip to ny I forgot to mention lighten your load.. How about xe1 w/ 21, 35 and the rx100..

"i think it would be great if the pancake 27 was a hit...coupled with the 14, it would be a killer combo...one camera, 2 lenses...for life!"
This is a quote by you Joe in another recent thread, on the forthcoming Fuji 27mm.

That combo is my preferred pairing in the past when I was shooting Leica CL. I would love to have a 21/40 setup for my xp1.

don't you ever feel the urge to get your kit as simple as possilbe?
My kit is as simple as possible, given my current mode of exploring different imaging and visual language ideas. I don't even count how many different cameras, lenses, bags and other junk litter the office at this point.

What makes a perfect camera? Is it the potential of what it unlocks for you? (ex: ability to capture candle walkers at night?) Or is it simply an enhancement to a tool you already have?
I love photography. I love cameras. I love gear and the sexiness they exude. But what makes a camera a perfect camera? To answer that question, I look at my favorite photographs and ask what do they have in common? Is it field of view? Is it a specific style? Medium?
Next, I look at photographs that I enjoy taken by others. What do they have in common? With these answers in hand, I was able to determine that I continue to enjoy having an optical viewfinder; that having the connection with the subject is critical for achieving my vision. I also found that I like grain and pastel colors. For me, continuing to use film was my answer. For when I need immediate results, I have my M8, Sony Nex and D300. Not cutting edge, but it works for me.
Unfortunately, this made me realize that I already have my perfect gear. It doesn't change my lust and desire for new and shiny things, but it does allow me to take the money I would have sunk as an investment into the new body and justify continued operating expenses for using my film bodies.
Color me jealous if you do get the RX1. Looking forward to your photographs either way!

Well, I'll get to meet the "enigma" next month I hope.

Give it two years till the RX1 is passe. Then buy one for $800 and put an optical 35mm finder on the hotshoe (it has a hotshoe, right?). Perfect.

Your current kit is almost perfect. Sell one body and one lens, and it will be closer to perfection

I got my x100s in the mail the other day. Haven't even opened the box....I know, crazy. I am still jonesing for the RX1. I actually think its worth it but I may be better off with a used 5D with 50 1.4 and an RX 100 all in for about half of the RX1......it's a sickness back alley !

Ah, i'm not a collector so I cannot understand, I do not like having too much stuff, besides books, especially if it is expensive

no cold pills today...sticking with my plan...staying with the fujis, will look at the new x100s and then decide about it...will get a rx1 used when the price is easier to live with.

The RX1 is serious money fora very narrow intended use. I reckon the fuji's are just fine. The 27 pancake isn't reaaaally going to be that much different to your 35mm f1.4 Joe, just think about it! Take 3 steps back and it's a 27mm lens, but has.. what... 3 stops more speed?
