Show me a nice old car

When I was a boy, some 70 to 60 years ago, in the places were I lived in Italy, Roma and Fregene (a Roman beach town) there was an incredible abundance of posh and beautiful cars. Just to give an idea Ferraris 275 GTB (Scaglietti berlinetta) and the 250 GT California Spyder appeared regularly in Fregene (I even knew the owners). Back then Italy was a tranquil and most beautiful place .
The photos of modern Japan by Mike remind me of those happy days in Italy.
Nowaday not only I don't see any more beautiful new or old car, but even if if I met one and had my camera with me, I wouldn't take any picture, because it would be too dangerous. Too bad!

Somebody's daily driver​

I remember seeing on the roads in Rome and vicinity cars by Siata (very nice this one caught by Godfrey), Stanguellini (Wayne Carini had an episode on a Stanguellini) and Osca.. Great Italian brands that unfortunately disappeared.
 
Osca was founded by three Maserati brothers after a fourth brother, founder of Maserati, died after a surgery, and Maserati was acquired by an entrepreneur and moved from Bologna to Modena. The three surviving Maserati brothers remained 10 years (by contract) at Maserati, but at expiration of the contract they founded OSCA returning to Bologna. OSCA lived 20 years from 1947 to 1967, when the brother were too old to carry on. It produced wonderful cars, which of course are very rare today. But in cooperation with FIAT and Pininfarina, they produced the FIAT 1500 Spyder which later on evolved in the FIAT 124 Spyder.
Interestingly I remember (but I cannot recollect when and where) that once, while I was in the States, a colleague of mine gave me a ride on a FIAT 124.
Thus it is a car which is appreciated in the States.
But naturally he complained that FIAT had abandoned the USA market leaving its customer in trouble (and the same did Alfa Romeo)

The wife of one of my friends has a relatively late series FIAT 124 Spyder that she restored from essentially a junkheap abandon about a dozen or so years ago. A very nice car again, now. Another friend, back in the 1970s, had a '71 FIAT 124 Sport Coupe, which I always thought was an even nicer looking variant on the same chassis.

Both FIAT and Alfa Romeo left the US market for a long time, like many other European manufacturers. (Of course, by that time FIAT owned Alfa Romeo...) The onerous cost of USA compliance certification for emissions and safety specifications simply killed the market for these makers, rendered it profitless, given their limited audience by the early '70s here. It was good to see FIAT and Alfa Romeo return, albeit with only a limited range of offerings.

I see the occasional OSCA surface at our annual, local "All Italian Day - Car and Motorcycle Show" exhibition. Very interesting cars and history.. :)

Very clean looking antique Corolla, Mike! I think that's the same/similar vintage to the one (in Harvest Gold) I rented years ago on a trip to Hawaii... The weather stripping for the trunk lid was missing, so the lid rattled constantly. And IIRC there was something bent in the front suspension so it steered oddly. Memories... :cool:
 
This late 50's (?) Dodge Coronet was abandoned in the middle of the woods on a property that is adjacent to me. How it got there and how long it has been there is a mystery. While it is no longer nice, it is charming in its own way...at least it is to me:
