A pro photographer once told me that one of the differences between a good photographer and a bad one is that the good photographer knows what to throw away. What to keep is a personal decision and in some cases may have nothing to do with the technical merits of the photo.
I have a box of reject photos and prints - once in a while, going through the box many years later, I discover some of these rejects are quite good for one reason or another.
