I know they wouldn’t re-introduce the M5 - it was and still is too different from traditional M’s. Yet it is a good camera. This post,

reflects my view of it. It’s size and weight are good for me - a subjective and minority view. Maybe if enough people dislike it, it will become more affordable.

I think it would be helpful to provide the source of this info. I see highly credible members presenting contradictory info as if they were both established facts. Of course, they can't both be. Either the two models are the same, or else they aren't. Perhaps they are the same in some ways, and different in other ways. To know, one would need to get a statement directly from Leica, or else get Sherry or Don to take them both apart and find out.

I put in a call to Leica USA to ask the question I'm sure I already have the answer to, but they have not gotten back to me. However, in the interim, my local camera dealer (Tony Rose at Popflash) indicated to me that, according to Leica, the two camera meters (MP and M6 reissue) are the same. Believe what you want, but based on what I've seen and heard I'm settled on the issue.
It has also been reported by others in this forum that Leica is working on a way to integrate the current MP/M6 reissue circuit boards into the original M6 classic.

Any updates? Now I see people leaning towards the new M6 being the same as the MP after all. I honestly, do not care. Both are beautiful and out of my league price wise.

Anyone notice that interest fell off a cliff the moment Leica made its announcement. Like 25 pages before and 2 pages after. I guess when the rumor sites tell you everything in advance, the announcement is pretty ho-hum. Been there, done that, what's next. Anybody heard anything about the M12? You wouldn't want to buy an M11 now with the M12 on the horizon.
It certainly did die down here. However, elsewhere on social media, it has not died yet. It seems Leica has a winner. I think here we were all skeptical that they would actually do it. Once they did, it was like...ok, well.
We can joke, but too many people think this way.

I can't really comment on what goes on on social media. Perhaps the people on social media were not taking in the minute by minute rumors and analysis on the Leica related forums, and some of the details in the announcement came as a surprise. Perhaps not. Who knows. Not me.

The revisited M6 is worth it for those who want a meter equipped camera and prefer the rapid rewind crank of the M4 to M7 models: not everyone is happy with the M3/M2 type knurled knob rewind. (It makes little difference to me, as I'm rarely in that much of a hurry once I've finished a roll of film...)
I know that I would like an M-A ... but whether I'm willing to pay the price for one, before they change it out for something else, remains to be seen. My M4-2 still works beautifully.
Regards the M12 silliness ... Eh? Don't really care what foolishness people like to joke about with.
The more I use the M10-M, the more I like it. For greatest compatibility with battery and Visoflex, I'd be more likely to buy an M10-R to have a color M digital, new or used, despite the advantages of the M11 even. One of the things I find most annoying is having to manage several different kinds of batteries, never mind the expense of buying two spares of every type of battery and a spare charger for each type.
And of course, my Leica CL digital is continuing to work perfectly for color capture and I could be happy with just that for the foreseeable future.
What would help my "decision process", such as it is, a good deal is if I can get off my butt and sell off at least some of the overwhelming excess of camera equipment that's already cluttering up my office. 🙄

We need to keep perspective on the hype and froth whipped up by rumor sites. Did anyone's camera stop working the day Leica announced the new M6? Did all of the used cameras for sale suddenly stop working? Capitalism marches on but we should be cognizant to not always need the new shiny toy and the costs incurred. I for one am very excited about this announcement. If any of my children that have shown interest in photography and decide they like film/rangefinders, it's great that an Leica is continuing to commit to new production film bodies. That will hopefully be an option in the market for them in 10-15 years. I wish that any of the classic film SLR's (professional or semi-pro) were still in a sustainable low-volume production.
For me, I have an M6TTL 0.58 that I shoot without batteries installed paired with a Voigtlander 35/1.7 Ultron VM. Perhaps the new 35/1.5 will be comparable and smaller and that'd be neat, but I've yet to find a time with my M that I needed more lenses/faster lenses/more bodies. But in 10-15 years if something happens and this body is unrepairable... I'm glad that Leica is currently committed to new film body production.

That video was good. Now I want the new M6 just because it’s new. It certainly looks good. Taking a new camera out of a box must cause some sort of dopamine reaction.
I’m going to have to look through my original M6 box for that red Leica sticker. Oddly, I’ve never seen a Leica sticker on a car. I wonder why…
