Some new photos from Fort Wayne

Two kids sit in a 'train' made of big plastic barrels mounted on metal frames, pulled by a lawn tractor. Some of the barrels have faces painted on them, like the railcars in Thomas The Tank Engine! They were waiting in the staging area of the Waynedale Memorial Day Parade.

The annual parade runs north along Old Trail Road, from Waynedale United Methodist Church to the Prairie Grove Cemetery, in the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Yup, Heinkel made these minicars also. So, the Luftwaffe's suppliers pivoted to other markets... 🙂 Frightening to think about one of these colliding with, well, pretty much anything. But they are totally cool.

I'd be scared to death to drive one. I feel really claustrophobic in small cars anyway, and these are far worse than something like a Honda Civic.

The European micro-cars of post-WWII were seen more as a big step up from a bicycle or a moped, relative to which they wouldn't have seemed so dangerous in their day.

I've always liked small cars (though not micro-cars), like the original VW Beetles and other cars of similar size, as they were just fun to drive. I'm less likely to go for something like that now, as I'm old and I have a bad back. 😡
(I still drive a stick shift, though!)

This ragged-looking pine tree grows in my next-door neighbor's back yard.

Last night, I photographed it at sunset from my back yard. This is the first of two photographs that I made of the tree that evening.

Churubusco Watch & Jewelry is a tiny locally-owned jewelry store on US-33, just outside the small town of Churubusco, Indiana. I photographed it at the end of the day, in the warm light just before sunset.

This store reminded me a lot of Voors Jewelry, a little jewelry store in the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne.

The front doors of Rehoboth Community Missionary Church, located on County Road 275E, just south of County Road 125N, in rural Noble County, Indiana. The building was originally Rehoboth Evangelical Lutheran Church. It was built in 1907 to replace an earlier building that collapsed when workers were trying to dig a basement under it.

Rehoboth Church became a non-denominational Christian church in 1952; and in 1966 it joined the Missionary Church, a protestant denomination based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

This little white house is on Arbor Avenue, south of Sandpoint Road, in my neighborhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I photographed it in the evening, just before nightfall.

As long as I can remember, the tiny front porch was an enclosed entryway. In November, 2022 the walls and door were removed from the entryway, turning it into a porch.

This lone tree grows in the middle of a cornfield on the northwest corner of Dalman Road and Smith Road in rural Allen County, Indiana. I photographed it in the evening shortly before sunset.

The light fog blanketing the landscape is not fog. It is pollution from wildfires burning in northern Ontario and Quebec in Canada! Much of the midwestern United States was inundated with smog for more than a week after the smoke from the fires blew south into the U.S. Residents were advised to stay indoors as much as possible for several days due to the toxicity of the air.

This is the first of four photographs that I made of trees in the smog.

This beautiful old building is on the east side of Orange Street (State Road 9), just north of Main Street in the small town of Albion, Indiana. The storefront is home to a company called Ebey Sales And Service that sells flagpoles and installs satellite TV systems.

If you look at the windows on the second floor, you can see a faint reflection of a large American flag. This flag is on a pole in front of the Noble County Courthouse, which is across the street from this building.

This is a sequential series of six photographs of the Kong Tower, a ride at the 2023 Three Rivers Festival carnival. The ride lifts riders to the top of a steel tower, then drops them! I photographed it at dusk as the last light of the evening was fading.

The Three Rivers Festival takes place for 10 days in July at Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. I made this photograph last night.

The Flying Circus, a ride at the 2023 Three Rivers Festival carnival.

This is a swing carousel. Riders sit in seats suspended from the top of the ride with chains, like a backyard swing set. When it spins, the seats are propelled outward by centrifugal force. I photographed it at dusk as the last light of the evening was fading.

An inflatable food stand selling strawberry lemonade in the "Junk Food Alley" section of the 2023 Three Rivers Festival carnival. I've never seen an inflatable food concession before!
