I do love it that in the people scenes there are actual cameras, not smart phones.

Ah, them good old days. I recall buying Kodachrome 25 in Melbourn for AUD $5 a roll. 64 was a little more expensive, AUD $6.50 I think.

(Sighs) In my dreams, I would do my North American trip again with one Nikon (DSLR or better yet, mirrorless), a 28 and an 85. And probably use the WA 98.5% of the time. The 85 for the Grand Canyon, maybe. That would be my True Love Kit.

Gorgeous images of Washington, as always. Kudos to you, mate!

Taken from the Staten Island ferry. This was my first sight of NYC.

This is a great image, and it highlights something really interesting about photographs of NYC.

Post 9/11 there was a trend where people removed the WTC (not to be confused with the Dallas Market Center, which is embalmed with the name "World Trade Center" on the side, which I am only think about because I saw it yesterday) from a lot of depictions of the city. For a while it was absent. It's so thoroughly removed that it's actually a bit jarring to see it here, represented so clearly as the focus of the skyline that the buildings once were.

In 2006, a roll of Fuji XTRA 400 was something like $15 AUD. I haven't shot a lot of film since then, understandably. Fuji stopped making boxes of eight rolls, which I used to buy quite regularly.

Just imagine a nice new Nikon Zf or Z7 II (for the extra resolution), a Nikon 24/1.8 S and 85/1.8 S. There are a few 28mm DSLR lenses, but they need an adapter. But hey, what a great kit that would be.

@lynnb This is probably the most visited thread in recent RFF history! Thank you for taking us on your journey.

I've taken a short break from processing the scans, but I'll be back to continue this thread very soon... meanwhile here's another of the WTC from the Staten Island ferry. We're not even half way through this trip, so much more to come. Thanks for your continued interest and feedback!
PS Michael, good to see you here again.

Taken from the Staten Island ferry. My Kodachrome transparencies taken in NYC have a blue cast, and I don't know if that's the film or the light at that time (overcast, late in the day). Maybe a bit of both? I've adjusted the previous pictures of the WTC in LR6 using auto color but perhaps that's not an accurate rendition (too warm). I've compromised here with 50% auto color.

Next morning we waited around in the hotel for the tour guide/driver to return from fixing the van's broken suspension. When it got to mid morning I gave up waiting as we were only in NYC until the next morning. Camera in hand, I set out onto the streets of NYC.

Looking back at this photo now I see a sign for "adding machines and calculators". Such a long time ago in terms of technology as well as time.
Is that the Flatiron in the background?

Color shifts do happen with Kodachrome. Mine from the 1960s and 1970s have changed slightly to blue or occasionally magenta. Man 1980s and 1990s 'chromes are still okay, but color changes are inevitable as time passes.

I can live with this, but all that additional post processing work is rather a downer...

Good to see you posting images again, btw. As they say, it's impossible to keep a good man (with good images) down.

Re your #354, yes, that is the Flatiron in the distance. In 1979 I stood almost where you did and took a similar slide photo. Happenstance...

It is as if I arrive to NYC from Baghdad, and then the only show I get a ticket for is "Ali Baba and the forty thives"!
