I like these older - 1967 and before - VW "station wagons," as they were marketed in the US.

The 1968 model was suitably updated and improved, definitely a "better" vehicle, but it didn't have the soul of the original.

I agree! I had both.. But kept my 1970 model (bought used) the longest.

Wow, that's an anomalous, heavily modified Beetle!

That fuel filler door is 1969 or later (at least in the US market), and the large windows and door handles seem consistent with that. The fenders, hood, and bumpers are definitely much older, the wheels are after-market, and there is a tuned exhaust. The negative camber of the rear wheels is probably the result of what was once sold as a "camber compensator."

When I was a teenager, my big aspiration in life was to be able to buy a new Beetle! Unfortunately, I never did, but seeing one triggers all sorts of nostalgia for me. (Though I prefer to see them stock.)

Remember when Volvos had square corners? Remember station wagons? Those were the days!

Our family friends had one growing up, and I remember sitting in the third row rear-facing jump seats when I was a kid. Fun and exhilarating at the time, but in hindsight (pun intended), I'm glad we never got rear-ended!

I owned several of those--a '74 145 , '82 240 and '94 940. They were great cars for me--lots of miles and few repairs, if not the best in upstate NY winter driving.

At last! I was in the right place at the right time to capture an image of a
Citroën DS chugging smoothly gliding along on the streets of Yokohama. Hallelujah!

Thanks, Mike. The DS is truly a special car!
