I’m glad that this thread was revived as I had not previously seen it. Weather Report’s music was among some of the first jazz that I listened to — likely not too long before you took these images

Thanks @Guth, Boston was a lively Jazz scene back then to be sure. I was a student at Berklee at the time and was able to roam around a bit with my camera to take these shots at the Performance Center.I’m glad that this thread was revived as I had not previously seen it. A short lifetime ago, I was subletting an apartment from a friend of mine and Eddie Locke was our upstairs neighbor. I knew him just to say "hello" to, as he had taught my sublet friend drums as a kid, and was neighborhood/playground friends with his mother. Eddie was one of the musicians in that famous Art Kane photo "A Great Day in Harlem" that graced so many college dorm room walls (at least among my friends). You can see a scan of that photo here:
1958 - A Great Day in Harlem
Eddie is in the first row standing, third from the left. Anyway, we were talking one day, and Eddie agreed to sit for some quick portraits. Out came the Hasselblad. These were my favorites of the day:

You can read about Eddie on Wikipedia, but it won't capture how warm he was, or how generous with his time. It was always a pleasure to run into him, in that neighborhood sort of way. So: this was my brush with jazz greatness.
Viewing the pictures from my current vantage point, there are things I would have done differently. I'd have gotten in a bit closer, and I definitely would have made sure that Eddie's hands were visible on all the shots. Seriously? You are going to make a photo of a jazz drummer and allow his hands to drift out of the frame? Younger self: what were you thinking?!!? Still I prize the pictures and they remind me of a good afternoon.

When all else fails, read the instructions.
I may have posted this before. When not fronting his own Fellowship Band, playing with Wayne Shorter's band or in Chick Corea's Trio, my friend and neighbor Brian Blade tried to keep his International Travelall, "The Beast" running. Brian is one of the most in-demand drummers in jazz and he stays busy and on the road most of the time. This was one of the rare times he was home in 2018. Lots have changed since then. The pandemic hit, both Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea died and the "The Beast" has long departed to a new owner. Both Brian and myself have lost a bit of hair and I'm not very mobile anymore. But Brian is still busy, touring and recording and away from home a lot these days. Even though he lives across the street we don't see too much of each other. I still consider myself lucky to have him as a friend.
Just a quick snap with the GRII while two incredibly ignorant shade tree mechanics tried to get an obstinate vehicle running.
