This mornings delivery....

"This is a Purma Special, an all Bakelite snapshot camera produced by Purma Camera, Ltd., England starting in 1937. The Purma Special shoots sixteen 32mm x 32mm images on 127 roll film."

It might be a while before I get round to trying this but looking forward to it, the lens is on a spring and pushes in when the cap is screwed on, so simple and the shutter is controlled by gravity, depending on the orientation, that dictates the shutter speed.

The past couple of weeks been layed up in bed and once the boredom sets in it's dangerous for the camera budget that's already empty....This mornings drop through the door.

If what I've read is true then this has the most complicated shutter for a RF in its time and bought it as S/R, so I probably will leave as is, the manual shutter works fine so half way there and it's in beautiful condition so if the Auto is out of whack, still usable and for what it cost, lovely enough just to look at. (Came with the case as well)

Besides buying a house, I found a very sweet deal on a Hasselblad tripod head. This is a 1950’s model that was introduced alongside the 1600f and 1000f cameras. A pretty scarce accessory but I managed to get it for all of $20 CDN.

One that’s even more scarce is the ROSS Sweden version, which predates the Hasselblad cameras by a couple of years.

Notice that the Hasselblad version is 1/4-20 and the ROSS version is 3/8.

Well ... Since the IIIc has worked out so nicely and I know I'll want to be shooting with it, I decided a case was worth getting to help protect the body and make it a little more secure in my hands. I searched for Leica IIIc cases and was not impressed with what I saw ... I dunno, but 50+ year old leather cases are almost invariably a little damaged and all the really nice ones were almost as much as the camera was. That's silly.

And then I happened on a simple, new leather half-case for about $50 ... Not a paragon of originality or style, but completely functional, achieves what I want, and a good price. It's on the way. 🙂

I don't think Hasselblad ever made anything that wasn't an exquisite piece of industrial design. I just need to pretend that they never made the Lunar Digital... 🤢

Understanding the low light limitations of my M9-P bodies, I recently acquired a 7Artisans 75mm f/1.25 and a Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 (v. 3), a smaller lighter replacement of the 35/1.2 v. 1, which I got in 2009.

The attached glamour shot was made with a M9-P at ISO 2500 and lifted another ~ 1.5 stops in P-Shop, but done with a 90 T-E @ f/2.8 to illustrate my desire for faster lenses for the M9-P.


Initial test images with both lenses suggest they will be long time keepers and yet additional arrows in the quiver.

I couldn't help but notice the Les Paul Sunburst hanging on the wall in what may be your dining room. Excellent choice for room decor.

Another tag sale acquisition: Canon AE-1 with 50/1.8 S.C. breech mount, in typical deteriorating Canon case, with front cap, skylight filter and guitar-style strap. It even has the plastic insert for the hotshoe. It didn't look promising but camera and lens are in superb condition and work fine. Came with battery and there's a roll of 400 film (who knows what) inside. $10.

My guitars have been my principal distraction since ~ 1968. I'm currently awaiting the delivery of a Telecaster Hybrid Acustic/Electric to complement the pair of Tele's in my music room, it too is a 3 color 'burst, all are fenders. I got rid of my pair of Les Pauls maybe 25 years ago, they were just too heavy for my comfort level. Each of my current Tele's have interesting pickups, one a Gibson P-90 (Soapbar), the other a Seymour Duncan recreation of Billy Gibbons "Pearly Gates".

The anticipated guitar is the solo shot.
