What are you listening to at the moment?

Listening to the 40 Meter (7 MHz) Ham band. Lots of phone activity on LSB (lower side-band); I am guessing since conditions are pretty good right now and a lot of hams are home for the holiday.

(Radio - ICOM IC-705 | Antenna: Mag-Loop - Chameleon CHA F-Loop 3.0 Plus*)

*Picked up China Radio International the other day on 7.215 MHz (41-Meter AM broadcast) - News and some music - Transmitter (500 KW) in Xianyang, China. about 6,200 miles away.

'Apt' ( 2024 ) caught my ears bcs it has a very 80s melody along it's Rap, Punk rock expression,

It's a S Korean 'drinking game' song; 'Apartment', performed by S Korean pop singer Rose ( 27, a New Zealand born Korean ) and
American singer Bruno Mars...( the two w others wrote the song too! )

it took me a few hours to figure out why i like the melody....It has that 'Viva la Vida' ( Coldplay ) vibe...

Original MV ( Oct 2024)
'Apt', Rose+ Bruno Mars ( very good sound quality, Good MV), A smash hit Already!

As much as I enjoy jazz, I don't know a lot of jazz artists apart from the most prominent ones like Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett and Dave Brubeck. Today, I came across Bill Evans, and wow, what a gifted individual. I can feel my brain lighting up as I follow his melodies and chords.

He is from my home town. And I used to hear him in a dive bar on Staten Island when he was on his way back from some serious heroin. It was a piano trio and they were great. He was kind of stand-offish and it took a few Saturday nights there when the other two members would come over before he did. When he did come over he was funny, with a very dry wit. And, yes, he sure could play the piano. But it was not flashy at all. It was so subtly good you could overlook his skill. But not for long. That was the late 50's. We were really lucky to hit that bar when he was there.

You're so lucky to have seen him live! His playing is the auditory equivalent of watching living mercury flow through the rough bark of trees.

Looking back, I've gone to gigs for Albert King (blues guitarist), Harry Connick Jr, and Wynton Marsalis, all in the very early 90s. In the 2000s, I went to a sadly gone, but previously legendary, jazz club in Melbourne called Bennett's Lane, where a lot of local acts played, but even Prince dropped in for an unannounced visit.

Touching and insightful interview by Rick Beato with Keith Jarrett. I have been moved by his music over the years and it is good to see him in good spirits in light of his strokes.

I don't know whose imitation of Miles I like better: Wayne Shorter's or Keith's. Interview includes some great stories from his Miles Davis Band days. Enjoy!

If you have never seen this... ...just touching (along with Danny Boy - Londonderry Air)

Is there anything better than excellent jazz jams in a small club? Can't recall who all I've seen/heard in small clubs of San Francisco in late 80s to 90s. Some of my best life experiences. Funny too because I was otherwise a young punk rock "aficionado" like all my friends.
Back when we could smoke indoors.... Tables with drinks.... no more than 50 people in the place... master level musicians - most of them well known... true jazz experience in every way. I guess I miss it.
