Listening to the 40 Meter (7 MHz) Ham band. Lots of phone activity on LSB (lower side-band); I am guessing since conditions are pretty good right now and a lot of hams are home for the holiday.

As much as I enjoy jazz, I don't know a lot of jazz artists apart from the most prominent ones like Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett and Dave Brubeck. Today, I came across Bill Evans, and wow, what a gifted individual. I can feel my brain lighting up as I follow his melodies and chords.
You're so lucky to have seen him live! His playing is the auditory equivalent of watching living mercury flow through the rough bark of trees. He is from my home town. And I used to hear him in a dive bar on Staten Island when he was on his way back fro some serious heroin. It was a piano trio and they were great. He was kind of stand-offish and it took a few Saturday nights there when the other two members would come over before he did. When he did come over he was funny, with a very dry wit. And, yes, he sure could play the piano. But it was not flashy at all. It was so subtly good you could overlook his skill. But not for long. That was the late 50's. We were really lucky to hit that bar when he was there.
