If this carries on i'm going to have to buy more popcorn.
this thread took an unfortunate turn, it's time to get back to actually discussing the gallery.

Yes, please resume the gallery discussion. Just needed to say what I said. No need to respond.this thread took an unfortunate turn, it's time to get back to actually discussing the gallery.

I've been perusing individual poster's Galleries more; one nice-to-have would be a scalable display of thumbnails, to fit the window, rather than the present fixed width display.

Not a gallery user. Don't know how the protocols work. Don't care. I've been AWOL for the last few weeks as far as being a frequent visitor to the site is concerned. Today I just happened to look at this thread and...damn. Haven't we learned as a species that it is impossible to get more than two people to agree on anything?
Anyway...I miss Mike.
Mike, if you happen to drop by again, I miss your street photos and the little stories they told me.
Okay. I have nothing substantial to add.

I’m still struggling with the Gallery as a place worth visiting. If it was a camera I wouldn’t buy it. Too heavy, too many buttons, and absolutely too many nested menus. When I click on Gallery the first thing I see is a set of photos with 30-50% photos I’ve seen there before. I then have to hunt for recent ones, and then I have to experiment with how to get the photograph and comments on it. And that requires more effort, aided mostly by the fact that I know there are comments for a particular photo, so pressing on to hunt for them will provide a return. As a discussion, editing and learning exercise the old gallery worked better.
If by Gallery we might mean a collection of fine photographs, static, like my favourite paintings in the National Gallery of Victoria I’ve been visiting for over 50 years, then I’d like access to that. There have been stellar gems here I could describe, just as there were only descriptions of paintings in my 1930 catalogue of pictures in The National Gallery in London. Some of Steveh’s, Tuna’s, Lynnb’s, Bingley’s, tigerphil’s, Mlehrmann’s etc etc etc would be in such a gallery.
The Gallery here several years ago was more like folios presented to a gallerist running a gallery. Some fell off the front page and to oblivion, gaining little attention. Others kept being noted and commented on, sometimes so much that the first page was all the same picture, each iteration on account of a new comment. That was undemocratic but meritocratic.
Maybe we should have two galleries: static with little change, and an active gallery.

great gallery, but it's more suited for a computer than a phone.

I feel sorry to say I lost interest in the Gallery. I fully agree with Richard G .
I liked to sit in front of of my computer and go through it.
It was interesting because of the photo and because of the comments.
It seems me there are very few comments now.
Still a few interesting authors are present, Richard’s G mentioned some.

Yesterday I uploaded this image to the Gallery and forgot to add Title and other details (camera, lens, exposure, shooting notes).
I cannot see how to add these details.
If I click on the image I get an elarged view, but no additional edit icons.
If I click on the default Title or the comment icon I get this dialog box, where nothing enables me to edit the details above:

Honestly, this should not be this difficult!
What am I missing?
I’m using a Macbook Air Sequoia 15.3.2 (24D81), DuckDuckGo browser
I cannot see how to add these details.

Thank you for this. It also never occurred to me to tap the thumbnail to edit comments.I clicked on the file name, in the resulting window I clicked on the photo icon, the full photo came out with the ability to edit and view all comments

But it works...
I have to agree though that there is nothing intuitive about using the gallery. Which kinda puts me off using it. I have uploaded quite a few photos but almost never explore the gallery to look at others photos.
Basically nothing seems obvious so I generally don't bother.
I must say that I generally view Rff on my mobile so maybe that makes a difference.

I also often get stuck on many of these questions)))
and yes, I try not to look at photos on my phone

Abstract Clarity
I left the gallery sometime ago under a bit of a dark cloud. Occasionally I think about posting in the gallery again but I’m not sure I’m ready or anyone else is either. People (in my opinion) seem to have a very high expectation of what the gallery is; like it’s some lofty artistic high end art gallery curated by a professional art gallery curator!
The gallery is just a reflection of us. If it’s good it means we are good. If it sucks, it means we suck! If one wants to see a better gallery, one should contribute thusly. An active thriving artistically creative gallery is not the responsibility of MP Guy, it’s our responsibility… RFF members make the RFF gallery what it is.
And, with that, I think it’s time I either shut up or put up. I think it’s time I start posting in the gallery again.

question 1 - selection is very important, especially in digital photography - after all, you can publish 100500 takes)))I left the gallery sometime ago under a bit of a dark cloud. question 2 - I have never hidden that publication and reviews help me. Even without reviews - publication already makes my photo not mine, no longer belonging to me, but to society, the viewer, the photo becomes alien, and I also look at it as alien.
