What is the overall view on the gallery

On the other hand, we lost a long-time, actively contributing member because of unsolicited criticism, including comments from a new member with not even a dozen total posts on the forum. Personally, I hardly interacted with the Gallery, so I consider Mike leaving a much bigger loss.

I hope that Mike will return to RFF. With that many RFF members and vistors, it is likely to face such unsolicited negative remarks.

Nothing wrong with that rule. There were often several times that number posted by certain individuals.

I recall seeing several times that number occupying a single page of the Gallery. But I'm not sure how it was done. I just looked at the Gallery to see if I could better understand, but all previous images have been deleted.

2. Sometimes I write the title of the photo there - is this acceptable?

3. And another question - is it normal that I respond with gratitude for a comment?
After all, it turns out that I make another comment to my image and thereby unreasonably increase its rating?

I don't think that rule exists (or, if it does, it doesn't work).

Maybe the "best" solution is to ensure the Latest Photos widget only pulls in the one most recent photo from each user (i.e. displays eight photos from the eight photographers that posted most recently". I don't know how hard that would be to code with the setup @MP Guy has put together, though.

Click on the top right corner of horizontal images where there is a two-arrow sign.. Then scroll below the shown images. If there are past comments they can then be seen when clicking on “show more”.

Thank you, I had no idea this was an option...I was getting very frustrated with being unable to access comments, all good now.

This is the unsolicited criticism I was referring to, nothing to do with the Gallery and how to improve it. Anyway, there's enough negativity in the world, I won't add any more to it here.

My simple answer to this is to use the ignore option, I really don't want to read that sort of thing again in future, this place used to be nicer than that.

True, the ignore function works so that you personally don't see the offending posts anymore, but it doesn't necessarily create a better community here on the forum. I get that this is the Internet, but that doesn't mean we have to behave like the rest of the Internet here. Part of what makes RFF great is members who generously share their photographs and expertise. When members feel this isn't a welcoming place anymore, I think we all lose out.

I have in the past worried about bringing undue attention to a photo of mine by thanking a fellow member for comment. Getting busy elsewhere might see an efficiency of thanking two commenters with just one further comment. Generally, in this iteration and the previous Gallery, most of us did thank the members for their comments. The new Gallery doesn’t cause any inflation of attention to a much commented on photo, as you need to look for previous comments.

I agree that it is a shame Mike left. Solicited or not, feedback could have been provided in a more tactful way (I see that John has since removed the incriminating screen grab from his original post). As feedback was asked for, I do think it is good to share our thoughts provided we can do so in a constructive way.

Just to be clear, I wasn't referring to John. As a long-time, active member, he was providing honest feedback about the Gallery. It may not have come off as intended, but he expressed his regret and apologized. And by the way, @Guth, I think you set a good example in your first post. I appreciated the positive tenor and I think we can all follow suit.

It is rendered in two screens mode.

Ok everyone. I have asked for feedback on gallery and this is good stuff to know. However, lets keep it civil please.

With that said,

I have added a 5 upload per day limit to the gallery. This limit was set by Stephen and can easily be changed if needed.

There are 86,400 seconds in a day. If the time difference between now and your last upload is less than 86,400 seconds, you will get a message saying you have reached your daily limit. So, if there are 5 uploads per day, and 3 are less than 86,400 seconds old, you will get two more uploads for the day.

I guess I should work on a how to or faq section one of these days.

How do you like a photo? raid, explained it above. But here is another way ....

On the bottom right of the thumb nails, you see the hamburger menu. Click on that, a pop up opens and you can click on the like button.

If the thumb is facing up, you can click to like it. If it is facing down, you have liked it already and can click to unlike.






Tired of being flooded by a users posts or images ? Click on one of the users photos, On the left You will see a Block button. Click it to ignore new content form that user. ( I may have to modify this as this was working before and I may need to set it in motion again ).

Also, please give this Changes to Mobile version of gallery a good test as I will be implementing it here if no one reports any issues.

While I agree that 5 per day should be adequate for most purposes, would it be possible to have a user-enabled over-ride for those occasional instances when real-time upload is justifiable?

Three from a sequence taken throughout a day, before I joined RFF, and on an SLR to boot.
