What have you just BOUGHT?

I've been looking for a compact digital for casual daily walks and bicycle rides as even a Leica M is a little bulky and heavy sometimes. I got interested to look at the new Fuji X Half but once I discovered that it was a JPEG-only camera, I lost interest. And then I remember the Leica X1/X2 cameras ... I had an X2 in the past and thought it very nice. Well X2s go for a bit more than the Fuji X Half, but X1s go for less.

Got it from B&H for a couple-three hundred less than a Fuji X Half. I'd forgotten just how small and light these were! I put a 16G card in (probably 600 or so JPEG+DNG pairs), had the cord strap already, ordered an additional pair of batteries ($20 for 2x WASABI batts), and would like the Leica leather case for it, if I can find one at a decent price.

Having raw capture makes all the difference to me ... a quick selfie snap:

What a goofball! LOL!

I think I'll have fun with it. 🙂

Are you going to pop a 35mm VF in the shoe? There are silly inexpensive ones out on eBay these days. I can’t remember - the lens ring is programmable, correct? Nice score, and much more economical than I would have expected.

I have both Voigtländer and Leica 35mm clip-on finders, one of which will be used with this camera a lot. (The "correct" viewfinder for the X1 is a Leica 36mm, evidently, but I'm not really willing to spend $200 for that small a difference. 😉 )

The front ring on the lens assembly is just a beauty ring ... You can remove it and replace it with one of the auto-open lens caps if you're so inclined (and if you can find one nowadays). I had one of those when I had the X2, but it went with that camera when I sold it.

I really had forgotten just how small and light the X1/X2 are; a true compact. It's a good lens, a good sensor, and 12 Mpixel is enough for what I wanted this camera for.

A Standard for the digital age.

Right there with you. Have a lovely 24Mpix DSLR but it's kinda big. Bought a D-Lux Type 109 late last year. 12pmix is more than enough for most everything including 8x10 prints. The color is superb and the monochrome is off the charts. It's going far away with me later this year ... I may just take only a IIIf or M body with it and leave the DSLR alone and lonely...

P.S. You are no goofier than the rest of us ...

Being "in that kind of mood" and having just acquired the Leica X1, I went a little nuts and ordered the Leica 36mm Brightline viewfinder, the Leica leather everready case, and the Leica grip for it. Yeeks! Even at the severely depressed prices of NOS accessories for a discontinued camera model, that ran a bit fat...

Have fun with it. The JPEG engine is quite nice on the X1 so I always shot JPEG+RAW. I had the Luigi case on mine. It covered up the back to make it feel less digital when using the VF.

The Luigi case looks good, but I use the LCD rather a lot even when I have the viewfinder fitted as it's the only way to see the EV Compensation setting as I walk and shoot. I had an X2 in a prior lifetime, was probably foolish to sell it, had an A&A half case for it, IIRC, that let me see the LCD.

Personally, I ignore any out of camera JPEGs, usually turn them off entirely but the X1 doesn't allow that. So I delete them after downloading. I just use raw files, it's what my whole workflow is set up for.

This week I bought a second, spare, JJC TM-K cable release/timer for my Fujifilm X-S1 camera.

All I need now is a spare official X-S1 metal lens hood. I've seen one listed, but the underneath doesn't look quite right and I don't want to spend £52 for one I can't test.

Either that or buy a spare Fujifilm X-S1 camera that has an official X-S1 metal lens hood among it's bits and pieces.

This body just arrived. Unfortunately, the high speed shutter timings are off. 1/250 is shooting at 1/188, 1/500 at 1/109, 1/1000 at 1/534 and 1/2000 at 1/971. Waiting to hear back from the seller.

I wouldn't bother seller. Buying an secondhand camera body I would expect to get it service regardless. 😉
