I don't believe there is a shortage any longer as of 09/25
I did purchase a new BP-SCL5 and it works as designed.
I do have an NOS that was still in the box, but I can not get it to charge at all.

The new manufacture batch came through in April as mentioned higher up in this thread. Leica has them in stock, but I think their manufacturing runs are pretty small. Stores generally don’t have as many as they did when the M10 series were new.

Most of the NOS batteries from the first run are dead like the one you describe. I have several in this condition.

Correct that, mine is a BP-SCL2 for the M240.
