Amazing how it's melted sideways, too! That must have been REALLY hot to break the laws of physics like that.

IIRC developing film was spooled into a light tight tank horizontally. If the melting occurred in the developing tank all is well in the physics of the universe. What is strange is that it occurred in just the one place. So, did this happen in the tank or while the film was hanging vertically to dry?

That's probably a fair assessment, both of shooting slow film whilst sloshing about in cold water while people are shooting at you (and others trying to get you away from what they are trying to blow up), and of the laundry bill.
