Used Leica’s serial unknown to Leica?

I've not contacted those other emails yet, but I asked customer support to check the # again and they said

which means ??? 😵‍💫

They know they had it wrong is what it means. This is not the first time I have heard of this happening, and the historical Leica and Leitz records are almost laughably inaccurate.

(A) they don’t have confidence in their own s/n database

Given all the lore around Leica it's surprising to me that their record keeping would be so jank. I've registered a ton of various products over the years and this is the first time I encounter a serial # that the manufacturer somehow "forgot". Weird!

We are all just humans, even Leica 😉
I think your are safe to keep your Mp. Just enjoy it 👍

What about rewind knob? Slanted vs thumb rewind aren’t interchangeable…
There is simply no interchangeable leica body that will accept a MP top plate…..

If you bring back Mr. Brian Sweeney I am sure he can convert a M to MP and I have the parts 😄

Update from the seller:

The problem was that the serial number cycle overlapped. This can sometimes happen when there is a change in a production batch

So, there, I guess, mystery sort of solved?
