I guess we can never be quite sure about what is going on with the candid street subjects in the photos we make of them. But some such images nevertheless leap off the screen with a story that is at least plausible - often because there is apparent emotion being depicted. Happy, sad, calm, resigned, angry, ebullient or whatever.

Here is an oldish one of mine and while I can only guess at the circumstances of the fellas in the image, I can't help but feel for the guy on the right of the group. It seems to me that he is feeling angst or something akin to it and his mates seem to be offering emotional sustenance and support. I am sure others have some photos where there is real emotion or at least a story we can see and feel. But I stumbled on this one today, it havnig been off my radar for a while and thought I would like to give it a "run" here as a starter post for a new thread.

Here's one of mine from circa 2008. It's one of my favorites (on my website's home page) specifically because it tells a story, depicts emotion and chronicles a sense of place.

The photos tell a story but only in the viewer's mind's eye.
Yes true. They are like sad songs. Sad songs "say so much" (in the words of another song). But that's OK. Without sad songs and emotive pictures we would all be automatons and robots. It's one thing I like about good street photos....................we relate to them because they remind us of something in our life. It may not be literally true in terms of what is happening to those in the photo. But if it hits us in the heart, it is true in terms of what has happened or is happening in our life. 😳
