Some may remember that I posted sometime ago for recommendations for someone to repaint an a la carte M7 that I had purchased from Sheuido in Taiwan.

It had been repainted glossy black by Sheuido and it was a really crappy job. The paint way too thickly applied. It looked awful particularly around the Leica script on the top plate as you can see:

The general consensus was that no one would touch an M7 repaint. At least, none of the more well known outfits would accept the job.

Fortunately, someone I know who happens to live close to Austin contacted me via my previous RFF post and now I have a "new" matte black M7 that I'm very happy with.

Thanks go to Robert Jagitsch at www.Restoration35.com for the meticulous Cerakote "paint" job and to my friend Jerry Sullivan, former Leica CLA guru at Precision Camera & Video in Austin, for the painstaking disassembly and re-assembly of the camera -- a camera partially butchered inside by the hamhanded louts at Sheuido.

Thanks Dave, this camera was a bit of a challenge, there were many, many layers of paint that had to be removed. 🙂 And the back door had to be completely disassembled, with some delicate electronic contacts (not to mention tiny springs and ball bearings in the ISO dial, which have minds of their own and like to plan escape attempts from the work bench.)

Thanks to Jerry for disassembling and reassembling the camera. After many years designing, manufacturing, and debugging electronic circuits I didn't want to risk messing up a M7 circuit board which may take months to get repaired by Leica...

Congratulations on the excellent re-paint and refresh of your M7. I'm requesting a refresh and black paint conversion for my beloved M3 double stroke.
