What have you driven/are driving?

old 911

old 911

as our babies started growing, I had to sell this, but not until ensuring the kids knew that this would be the funnest car we've ever owned:

photos were taken with a '95 Casio digicam:

In chronological order:

Harley Davidson/Aermacchi 200cc scooter - the only one I've ever seen was the one I owned. I renewed the back brake cable, but put it through the wrong hole, so every time I went over a bump the back brake came on - fun.

Wow, Saab got at least two mentions!!!

I am a Saab guy myself.

My first car was a great 87 900 spg, and I currently drive a 94 9000 Aero. Sometimes I miss the 900.

When I was in high school I rebuilt a v4 engine for my senior project. Quite a departure from the rest of my friends as it was not a vocational school. This was only a couple of years ago as I am only 21.

JLW I love vintage SAABS. I know that someday I will own a two stroke. Hopefully a 93B.

Current: Scion (akd Toyota) xA
Past > 1980 Honda Civic (totaled by a truck on the FDR Drive)
Datsun 810 (engine died)
Hyundi GLS (exwife took it, left that cat, I got the better deal)
1980 Volvo 240
VW Jetta (last car with stick shift, found wife v2.0 (much improved))

Have kind of gotten to the place where if it's safe, small and reliable, I like it. Would rather put money for kids, wife or cameras (read OMGIAOF Oh My God, I'm An Old Fart).

This is fun! I've had:
77 VW Rabbit - lowered, swaybar, Euro grill, engine blowed up real good!
83 Honda Civic 1500 GLS - predecessor to the Si series with sporty accessories! Unfortunately I had to crash that Honda.
77 Toyota Corolla hatchback - looked like a station wagon. Painted General Lee orange.
83 Honda Accord - drove it from Vancouver to Memphis to New Orleans, then New Orleans back to Vancouver in three days!
84 Honda Prelude - bought from a wreckers who replaced the motor after the original caught fire. Good deal!
85 VW Scirocco - finally got my dream car from high school 12 years later! The newest car I've owned yet.
82 VW Westfalia - the Tiger Van! Diesel converted to 1.8L inline 4. Nuff said!

My favorite ride was a pumpkin orange 74 MGB which I drove in college. Dual Weber carborators and the last year the MGB had metal bumpers, before they went to the big ugly (but more functional) black wrap-around rubber monstrocity.

Currently I'm driving the most dis-reputable car on the road for miles around- a 1990 Honda Civic hatchback with 200,000+ miles and dents, rust, dings and damage on every visible part. Over 65 MPH, the hood vibrates and threatens to fly off, due to a warp in the left side. The back and interior is covered with stickers from the previous owner. I'd peel them off, but I'm afraid they are all that holds it together. I got it in trade for a week's carpentry, plumbing and painting work to re-hab a rental apartment, and although it looks scary, it runs fine and gets around 38 MPG.

I currently am sporting around in a 2003 Nissan Maxxima SE, 6 Speed, Sun Roof, Fancy Stereo with XM Radio, Cloth Seats, 151,000 miles on its way to 250,000 before I will consider replacing it.

What does that say about me?

Growing up,

Pickup for free by my dad from garages around town who just wanted them off their lots:
72 Ford Torino
74 Mercury Montego
68 Ventura

My Grandfathers old car:
73 Chevy Vega

Parent's Hand me Down:
79 Dodge Omni

Neighbor's left over mess:
?? Dodge Dart

All on their last legs got me through 5 years or so, and my younger brother got a few years out of some of them too.

Oh, if I remember correctly my cousin got to own the Montego and Ventura for a short bit along the way.

So many vintage and collector cars I can't remember them all. My father started a Restoration shop in 1972. A 1935 Auburn he did won the Presidents Trophy in 1974.

Lots of boring cars, then a Hommell berlinette . I even was a race driver here in France (Hommell cup for 2 years) and now use Toyota Prius as a transportation media.

I've had to choose btwn my wife and car racing. The fun part is even without gas she's still doing a lot of noise...

...Unfortunately, most of the cars belonging to me and my wife have been pretty bland:

Currently driving:
2001 Mitsubishi Montero (4 door Pajero)
1992 Volvo 240

...

I take offense at that! My first car was a poo-brown Volvo 240 DL with a gold racing stripe. No one seemed capable of getting it to use all 4 cylinders at once, but it was kind enough to rotate the useless cylinder to keep relatively stable engine life. I kinda miss it... Especially the manual sun roof.

I have to confess to preferring my 2002 Miata sport (MX-5) which I bought used with 17k on it for 66% of list. Still smelled like a new car! MyMiata.jpg

My other ride is a Klein Quantum racing bike. So gorgeous when the sun glints off its faded paint scheme...WHEN WILL THE SNOW MELT!

Sorry...

My first auto--a Trabant P60
Then a Skoda MkIV coupe (both increadibly terrible autos)
Then a VW Bora MkII
Then another VW Bora this time a MkIII ,
and, currently, Porsche Boxter S (I've come a loooong way)

13 years of driving.

Started with my parents' 1994 BMW 540i
1996 Acura Integra
1995 Volkswagon Corrado VR6
1996 Audi A4 2.8
2002 Acura RSX
2005 BMW X3 2.5

My favorites: Corrado and 540i.
Wanted: BMW E30 M3
