0.85 VF with 35mm FL

I just got my first rangefinder (MP with 0.85 VF), only to realise that I really like a 35mm FL. I wonder how many members here using 35mm FL with 0.85 VF? Cheers, Oleg

I use the 35mm lines on my 0.85 M6 TTL all the time. No problems for me but I also shoot with my contacts in (I can't even see the 35mm lines if I have my glasses on). I prefer this set up because I find the 0.85 easier to focus than the 0.72 (I have horrible eyesight).

I agree with maddoc that it's impossible with eyeglasses; However, you can see the full 35mm frame with a the 0.85 VF.

I have M6, two M7's , all with 0.85. I use my 35mm Lux ASPH most of the time and is my preferred FL with 0.85. You just look in the finder and bang away.
I sold my 35 Sum RF for my M3 as I don't use it anymore since I got the 35mm Lux a number of years ago.-Dick

I don't wear eye-glasses and can see frame lines, but still have to kind of look around VF if I want to get something perfectly framed. It doesn't bother me except that you get a bit of tunnel vision like in the SLR VF. What I like about using 35mm FL with 0.85VF is that I feel just a little bit more closer and connected to my subject, or maybe it's just me lol. It's my first rangefinder and I have no experience with other view finders. I suppose time will tell and on the end of the day all I want is to take lots of pictures with this MP, which is a good tool for it..

A 0.85x M with a 35mm lens is my preferred setup. The VF magnification is high enough that I can keep both eyes open easily, but it is true that with eyeglasses it would be impossible. I'm lucky to be farsighted, so I don't wear glasses when I shoot, though.

I'm with semilog on this one. My other M camera is an M3, the M6 Classic 0.85 is my only 35mm framed camera.

I shoot it with an L-Hexanon 35/2.0 and a small Komura 35/3.5 and it allows for both-eye-open shooting. Like on the M3 with a 50mm🙂

I occasionally use a 35mm on my 0.85x M but prefer it on the 0.72x body. If you like area outside the frameline (like I do) the 0.85x is tight in that respect.

I use my summicron 35mm on my 0.85 M6 TTL all the time. I tend to forget about framelines, and just use a 'what you see is what you get' approach. Works well for me.

You can try one of those de-magnifiers on ebay. For about $70 USD, it would reduce your .85 to about .72x. I don't know how well it would work though, never used one, only the magnifiers (1.25) which works well to make a .72 an .85, but sticks out from the body.

I prefer using a 35mm lens with the ,85x VF than with a lower magnification VF. I find the focus is easier and more accurate especially in lower light situations. A helpful technique is to focus keeping both eyes open, using your non-VF eye to aid you in determining the composition. It has helped me when anticipating that a person or item will be coming into the frame. FWIW I never shoot with glasses, always contact lenses, as I find the optics with my contacts are preferable. As Gabor stated, using glasses with a ,85x VF would be composing as guesswork; further to this, though, I find anything other than a ,58x with glasses involves a fair amount of compositional guessing.

But a small 35 on a MP 0,85x is a sweet package as long as it suits your compositional technique.

I use my 35mm on my M7 .85 buy it's tough to see the framelines with glasses on as stated. I pop on my contacts if I know it's going to be a big 35 day when possible.

Love my .85 though as I'm an avid 50mm shooter.

Hey Oleg, from what I read, whatever you can see, you can magnify or de-magnify. If you can't see the 35mm framelines with glasses on, the current de-magnifier doesn't bring them into view.

I remember one person wrote that it just makes what you can see, smaller, and didn't help with the framelines.

Anyone out there with de-magnifier experience?
