here is what the ad says...
Not much to say here except NICE!!, take a look at the photos. 100mm Canon f3.5 telephoto lens with leather case, 100mm viewfinder concealed in case top. With filter holder/hood and UV filter.
Everything looks outstanding, glass and finish. There is a small mark on the lens hood you can see in the photo. The screw thread on the lens is 34mm. The filter holder screws into the lens, then you can use a series VI filter which the hood holds in place.

It finished at $192.50 - seems kind of high. What do they usually go for?
I'd been watching it for a few days. Even placed a few bids. Did anyone here win it?

With the hood that is a very fair price. Not great, but not bad either. The lens sell, well it varies. I have seen them go for as low as $125 and a couple real nice ones sold for over $200. I would say a good price for the lens is just over $150 and the hood, well, again it varies. Probably at least $30 for that. Throw in the finder and case and this was not a bad auction price.
We have whipped the world into a frenzy for this stuff.
Hope everyone is already vested...

The lens looked really nice. Besides that fact, the accessories pile on value. The finder and case are worth a few bucks. The hood isn't in collector condition, but is very usable, and is also scarce. The cap on the hood is scarce. I have found one of them, and another RF'er with a large collection doesn't have one, as yet.
Taking all of the factors, I'd say it was a good deal. I would have been tempted, the lens looks so nice compared to mine, a user.
Hope the winner appreciates a great lens, and doesn't just put it in a display case.

FYIW, I have noticed some ridiculously high prices for film scanners of late on the Bay (which I follow hoping to snag a cheapie for myself, maybe an LS-2000 or even Nikon IV). Maybe people are buying for Christmas? The time to keep a watchful eye will be AFTER the 25th. --John

The Canon 100/3.5 is too cute for words, but it flares more than just a bit when pointed towards a strong light source. This is especially true this time of year with sun so close to the horizon. That lens hood is a worthy investment in my book.

I don't know what to think about this lens. I got one from eBay for cheap a few years ago from Hunt's (outside Boston). It was hazy and so I sent it to John Van Stelten; then I got back the first roll and determined the focus was off. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say John had to do some significant work to fix it.
However -- I find the lens pretty soft at full aperture and down to 5.6, especially at closer focusing. Is this common experience, or do I have a bum lens, notwithstanding John's work? I love the size of the lens and its focal length, but this is troubling.

Granted that the softness/sharpness of a lens is subjective when not discussing lines of resolution per inch, I would not characterize the performance of my chrome/black 100/3.5 as pretty soft wide open, although I would agree that is less sharp at the near limit of focus. Just my two cents, and I would be interested in the opinion of others.

I have been watching this lens on eBay for the last couple of years, and prices seem to be all over the place. I bought mine a year ago for 118 USD, and there were only two bidders. Mind you, my example of this lens is in gorgeous condition, and came with both caps, finder and hard leather case (although no hood).
Until someone pointed out this auction, I didn't even know that the cap on the bak of the hood even existed. All told, I think that $ 192.50 is a decent price.

That was a decent price for a collector. I won an auction last night for a 135mm Canon lens (black version) for less than $50. There's an 85mm f1.5 out there if you look. Price will be bidded up though.

I saw the auction for the 85/1.5, and already know that it will finish well beyond my price range.
