$12 995 Summilux M 90/1.5 ASPH

Summilux could mean "faster than 2.0".

petapixel state:

SUMMICRON (f/2) had the first part of its name (Summi) taken from the Summar lenses of old. The latter part, cron, refers to the fact that the lenses originally used Crown glass (which was produced by a company Leitz acquired).

SUMMILUX (f/1.4) has the same prefix as its slower sibling, the Summicron, but has “lux” attached to the end to indicate its additional light-gathering powers. “Lux” is latin for “light.”

NOCTILUX (f/1) is the mother of all fast Leica lenses. It has both parts of its name dedicated to the fact that it’s a beast in low-light situations. “Nocti” is from the word “nocturnal”.

perfect for the Leica SL 1& 2 or any other mirrorless camera out there.

I don't fully agree with big and fast lenses on RF camera though

It'll probably only be useable on a camera with LiveView, i.e. M10 / M240. I have enough challenges with my 90/f2 getting the focus spot-on with the rangefinder when close in and fully open, that I imagine it'll be almost impossible to do it with this lens.

What d_c says. Not that I have the money, but even if I did, can't see spending that kind of money for a short telephoto, super fast lens for a rangefinder camera.

SLR, yes, Mirrorless, yes, but accuracy on a rangefinder, for a lens that long, not for me.

Best,
-Tim

I like this bit in the specs:

Angle view (diagonal, horizontal, vertical) For 35mm (24 x 36 mm): approx. 27°/23°/15°,
for M8: approx. 21°/17°/11°

They actually are still mentioning the M8! Even though they don't support it.

I love RF kameras for 50mm and below. Zero interest in this lens that you'll have to chimp every shot to see if you actually got it in focus. Use the best tool for the job. With lenses like this it is a DSLR or mirrorless AF camera.

Someday...there will be an M-mount, rangefinder-style EVF mirrorless camera, and this lens will be great on it.

Who would spend $13000 and still use an M8? You'd have to really be on the sauce to think that combo is the combo to have...

Nikon 85/1.4 is an AF lens, sort of solves the problem of focusing. Plus you could use the $11,500 you save to buy something useful.

Perhaps the slightly more expensive Nikkor 105/1.4E would be a closer match optically. Still $11,300 saved!

It's a big SLR lens (985g) but lighter than the Leica...

The world must have gone crazy.
