1951 Summitar - M240 - first photos

Thank you David. Your lens is sharp.

Thanks. I like your M10 shot, too.

I often get my knuckles rapped when people ask what lens they should fit on a Leica body of any age and I usually suggest the one that would have been bought with it when it was new. I think the Summitar photos justify that opinion. I know there's better (and dearer) but they all punch well above their weight and any one in good condition won't disappoint.

Regards, David

Thanks David.

I took this one yesterday (dust on the sensor) with the M9 this time.

Thanks Steve. The last 3 posted images were taken with the M9. I used this lens on the M10 a week earlier or so. The 3D effect may be due to the Summitar with the M9.

Raid, I really like your first fog photo. Lovely mood with an air of mystery. And the way the contrast decreases very noticeably with distance adds nicely to the feeling of depth in the image.

Thanks David.

Thanks; you're lucky to live within easy reach of somewhere so photogenic. I was tempted to put the Summitar on the M9 and wander off and take a few snaps but this part of the world is pleasant to live in but just fields, woods and rivers. Luckily I can easily reach the more photogenic parts with the car but that's banned at present...

I need to wait until they again allow visitors to walk around these boardwalks outside Joe Patti's Seafood, but I am lucky to have such places here.

Ooops, I forgot to add that I do like the way you have captured the atmosphere there. And my wife has asked to add her "Wow!" to the post. I think that says it all...

Nice job with the lighting brusby. Very soft shadows. Was it natural light?

Thanks for your nice comment! It was an interior space and artificial light. We used a mid size gridded soft box and a 16" Mola Rayo, swapping between the two for main light depending on how dramatic we wanted things to look.

Canon EOS R, Summitar 50mm @ f2

EOS R with moving subject was probably not the best use for this manual focus lens wide open 'cause accurate focus would have required zooming in. Instead I just accepted being in the ballpark. Rangefinder would have been quicker and easier to focus.
