Canon IIf just arrived (purchased "as is") the shutter fires but no matter what what setting it's on, it fires the same speed. I'm sure it's in need of a cleaning.

I had this problem once with my Leica IIIf.. I inadvertently put it on "R" (luckily while cleaning and testing with it torn apart already so I could see what the problem was... ,) this causes the 'closing curtain release lever' to not settle to it's lower position when you press the shutter button, thus it releases the second curtain immediately.

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem with their Canon before and what was the fix?

It was close to as i suspected in that it was the second curtain release lever. It's heavy wire spring was not mounted on the lever plus the long rod shaft of the lever was not seated down at the bottom where it touches the flat plate spring.

A simple fix and now for a CLA and I have a georgous IIf for under $50 !!

I like the pictures too!

Coincidently, I just had my shutter speed dial off because I needed to tighten the set screws on it. I was tired of constantly having to set the speeds by feel! Big gap, big gap, small gap, real small gap, etc... I was worried I'd expose my film by doing so, but seeing your pics, I'm thinking not.
