2.1cm f4 Nikkor S mount on the 'bay !

It would be interesting to see a comparison of the 2.1cm Nikkor and the Zeiss 21mm Biogon. I have never seen, much less used the Nikkor, but the Biogon is very impressive.

It's such a shame for equipment that could make wonderful pictures to have sat on a shelf for the last 40 years. I cannot wait to use my 21.

Come to papa.

It just awesome, coool nate!

I'm longing to see the result of three Nikon RF 21mm comparison.
Hope the baby return to the arms of new papa safely :)

I've been conversing with the eBay seller. He wants to get $5,000 for the set and said that he will cancel any bids less than that. I guess he didn't read the eBay terms of use very well. He should have used a reserve price then.

Hey Mister E,

didn't you buy a 2.1cm already?

Seems to me you are turning into one of those mad collectors already! :D

Kiu

Is the glass completely identical between the RF and SLR lens? Is that how one gets "replacement glass?"

I think it is a hard call, whether to get rare collectibles on ebay. For me, it is the working standard for looking for stuff, or evaluating prices.

Good luck with this lens, and let us know what you find.

Vick

I've not disassembled either lenses (the SLR or the RF version), but are you 100% sure the front elements are swappable? Kiitos, the Nikon experts in Japan, said that it was not something simple to do and possibly not something you could do at all. The front elements are obviously the same, but it seems they are mounted completely differently.

How does having replacement front glass affect anything? As for already having a 2.1cm, that's true, but I won't be keeping two of them. I am for sure not a collector!:D

So it seems the S-mount and F-mount are very similar in design, but in practice are the 2.1's similar in performance? I am really tempted to get a 2.1cm for my Nikon F. Also any photo taken with a 2.1cm would be great. I did a futile search of Flickr. Anyone know of a gallery of 2.1cm photos?

Thanks,

I have about 75 shots up on Flickr with the F-mount 21f4 and the VC adapter on a S2. Check under the tag "Nikkor 21mm f4.0". It is a very good lens for its age - a bit of fall off and not the most ergonomical of lenses to use. With the VC adapter it is fiddly to mount - but once on its fine. I have a bd S2 with a bad rangefinder patch that is dedicated to the 21/15/12 lenses as neither of them couple to the rangefinder.

I'm just starting to upload shots to flickr that were taken with my recently acquired Nikkor-O 2.1cm f4. So far, I'm impressed with its performance! Link is here.

Jon, looks great. Any idea how it performs comparing to the cv 21mm?

btw. Gabor looks drunk in the picture. :D

Tom,

only one photo appears under that tag-line in your Flickr gallery... probably doing something wrong on my end.

Jon,

Looks good! Distortion is less than I anticipated for a 21. I have just added a 2.1cm to my list of lenses for my Early Nikon F kit.

Gabor... hmmm.... looks like you were having a good time!
