2/35 'Cron vs. 2/35 Biogon

I would go for the cron asph, as much as I enjoy the zeiss design, for me its worth it to have the lens smaller because I travel a lot and the better corner sharpness wide open. Realistically you really cant go wrong with either probably.

Interesting- I would have to look up what Mr. Puts has to say in full, as I remember he covered this subject fairly extensively. I cannot imagine any lens designer with Leica authorising the production of a lens that would produce double contours or an uneven bokeh. I think it would be back to the drawing board if that happened. But maybe we are seeing the results of the COMO program Leica has been using over the last decades.

Only half jokingly: get a cheap Jupiter-12 with adapter and see what you think. I'm blown away by how good mine is, and I bought it on a whim. It's not snappy on the contrast like the more modern stuff is but you said that lower contrast does not bother you....after all the Jupiter-12 is supposedly the Biogon formula, but granted is one stop slower than the more modern option you are now considering.

I've tried that combo, it's not satisfying and the J12 doesn't drive my M6's RF to infity (on russian cams it does, off course) 😀

I think I'll stick with the 'Cron 🙂

thanks a lot guys 🙂

That's too bad. Works like a charm on my MP. I may have been lucky and gotten a "good" one.

Sorry but I have to strongly disagree with Magnus, to say Zeiss' lenses are lacking in contrast is complete nonsense. They are often accused of overly high contrast like those of the Contax G, while Leicas tones a bit more subtle. Then to also say that all "Leica optics render a completely, totally different look than anything else" is totally baseless as well. Get a CV 90 f3.5 and an Elmarit 90 f2.8. Stop down to 5.6 and Im certain you will not be able to tell the dfference as I have seen that comparison done. Its true that with certain Leica lenses compared to others you can but to say that about the whole range you cannot, nor do I believe you have tried them all together to make such a claim.

I don't think Magus implied anything you suggest here. This thread is not a Leica-Zeis war. As a matter of fact he replied to my post thus:

Jaap:With the lenses we are discussing here even the least of them is of such a quality that the differences in rendering are so small that the choice is largely a matter of taste.
Magus: I couldn't agree with you more. These optics are enough to challenge one's technique for a lifetime!

I would like to add that both Zeiss and Leica lens designers (and CV as well) work very hard to get a distinctive brand-fingerprint across the range of their respective product lines. I think, by and large, that they have succeeded very well. On the other hand, differences are indeed small and some Zeiss designs have been adopted by Leica with great succes. I think you do all of these excellent lenses a great injustice when you do stop them down to 5.6 to compare. That is not what lens quality is about. Stop down to f 22 and you cannot see the difference between an Agfa Click meniscus lens and a Summicron....

another piece of hearsay. didn't dante stella slam voigtlander for their lens line's inconsistent fingerprint?

Well, did he or didn't he? Find the reference and share it with us. 🙂

Otherwise, someone might accuse you of spreading hearsay! 😀

Are we taking this too seriously? Jeez guys, they're just lenses, ok?
