2008 – 2009 14 Day One Camera One Lens Challenge.

Given the level of participation, I'd say stick to 3. We'll have lots to look at as it is.

I 'registered' earlier when the Challenge was set up, vouching to use an M3, self made adapter and Nikkor 50mm 1.2 with external rangefinder.

I'd like to be granted the chance to change, since I received a nice Summar yesterday. Will be using an M3 and Tmax400 with it.

That OK, Keith?

I don't see a problem with that! 😀

My choice is already giving me anxiety ... I chose a 35mm lens to use with my M2 and I'm already wishing I'd stuck with 50mm which is my 'natural' length.

Oh well ... this is all about operating out of your comfort zone and I believe it may make me a better 35mm shooter! 😛

Jupiter 8

Jupiter 8

Whoopeee, the postman came today and brought along a Jupiter 8 - thanks mate 🙂 - I've just taken a handful of test shots, so my decision is made. I'll be acquainting myself with the 50mm lens for the next couple of weeks.

Do we have to register for this? I am shooting an M4-P with a 28mm f3.5 CV pancake lens. I adore this lens - beautiful and jewel-like in a chrome finish (not silver anodized), and tiny as can be.

I sent it. Did you get it? I also responded favorably to your offer to transfer $35M out of Nigeria. Too bad about your friend dying so suddenly and leaving all that money to you in such an inhospitable place. Please also forward all of your junk email and virus email to me as well. 🙄

I think I've decided what to use.

I bought an Olympus 35RD from shadowfox a while back just because it looked so good in the ad!

Havn't put a roll through it yet. Time to see how the Zuiko 40/1.7 performs.

Wohooo! looking forward to my old camera to rock again!

I bit all of you good light with this challenge, after reading the rules, I am not up to the challenge 🙂

There will be people at five minutes to midnight on the seventeenth with two or three cameras and lenses on the table in front of them wringing their hands in anguish at still not having decided ... which combo! 😕

😀😀😀

I've just remembered I get my Rolleiflex T back next week from having it's lens cleaned. (fungus) Also tempting! 😱
Jeez - does that mean I have to actually take pictures? 🙄

One of the really satisfying things that's coming out of this for me, and it may be the same for some others, is using a camera that normally sits in the cupboard! When I chose my M2 for this competition I hadn't used it in a long time ... six months or more in fact and I think in the two plus years I've had this camera I've only put a few rolls through it.

I'm totally amazed at just how good the M2 is in a wide variety of conditions and it makes me wonder if perhaps my Ikon isn't the best rangefinder I own after all. I was shooting the M2 in the near dark last night with my 35mm f2 Hexanon and Tri-X pushed to 1600 and was impressed at how easy it was to focus in these conditions.

I've been having fun shooting my 'one camera' already, although I won't be posting the photos since they are from a few days before the opening data. Still, I am looking forward to shooting over the next couple of weeks.

I decided to use the M6 + 35 Summicron. I was to meet my daughter in Stockton (CA) yesterday and then we would ride Amtrak home. I reasoned that this would be a good opportunity to do a little street shooting in an unfamiliar city and so gave myself about six hours before my daughter's bus arrived in Stockton.

When Amtrak pulled into the station and I disembarked, eager and ready to spot images, I was greeted by very cold temps and rain. I quickly shifted from photographic to survival mode. After wandering the mean streets of downtown Stockton and getting soaking wet, I ducked into a movie theater complex and dried out for a couple of hours.

I still had several hours to kill when I came out and the rain was still coming down, but the temperature had dropped. More walking, using canopies, trying to protect my camera case, looking for a warm, dry place on a Sunday when nothing was open.

I finally found a little hole-in-the wall Mexican restaurant where I ate chile verde, talked with the owner (I was the only customer) and stalled until they had to close. I then walked/ran to the train station where I met my daughter's bus and we had one more hour to wait for the train. There was a nice, warm, cozy train station but, on the weekend, IT WAS CLOSED! So we braved the wind and rain and cold for one more hour until Amtrak finally showed up.

Net result:

Zero pictures

A funny experience to reflect upon after it was over
