It wouldn't be the 'FSU contest' if we could just use anything, would itI'm game for just having a rangefinder camera contest
For the FSU contest:
I don't mind what combination of gear people would use to enter, as long as one of the components (Lens or Body) is from the Soviet Era.
The set period is fine by me.
I don't mind themes: That would be part of the challenge.

Self portrait ... I think Keith had an idea of doing something in this line as a tribute to Al Kaplan's work.
People at work ... leaves lots of room for interpretation.
Public transport has already been suggested
"Struggle to (inevitable) Victory"?
"Please set a date, let's say may the 9th (it has a meaning also, because on the 9th of may the Russian army was celebrating victory over the Nazis, and in an eastern-Europe-Russian influenced country like mine it was a special day, because the Communist soviet army "liberated" us on that day)."
Monday is the 9th and i think we could all be ready to start by then ... da?
What about themes folks, how do we decide?

see twice, shoot once
Let's vote! I vote "Struggle to (inevitable) Victory" - it's more abstract and leaves room for interpretation. Let's see how we each see this and compare the shots. How many shall it be from each contestant? 1? or between 3 and 6? Sugestions plzSelf portrait ... I think Keith had an idea of doing something in this line as a tribute to Al Kaplan's work.

I reckon 3 photos per person for each theme
Start Monday
"Struggle to (inevitable) Victory" is so abstract it could be almost anything but i like it
Any other favorites?

Everyone has a camera that needs repair/has just been repaired or they just gonna use the zorki off the shelf, yeah the one with the light leaks.
And where did this quaint idea of voting come from??
I`m extremely busy, but in, and happy to follow whatever is dictated in terms of rules. So please , someone [ other than me

How about photographs from your local neighbourhood - that should give a rather broad "work space"?

How do we feel about Lubitels in this competition? Are we TLR-friendly or shall I stick to the rangefinders?

Rangefinders only.... Lubitels are for amateurs....
I mean, Lubitel means "amateur"....

The best camera is one that still works!
This will be fun ... I needed something like this to get me back out shooting film. The siren call of the D700 has been pretty strong of late and the chance of getting dashed on the digital rocks was increasing daily.
Time to dust of the Kiev ll and J-3 and load up some Rollei Retro 100!

Ouch! That stings. My poor Lubitel; it never gets the respect it deserves...
But still, I understand the rangefinder-only sentiment, so I'll happily respect that. The Lubitel can stay on the shelf a bit longer.![]()
Lol, no disrespect to you or your Lubitel... I had a 166U for a while and got some impressive results. In fact, I wish I still had it

Negativistic forever
We had a 2010 contest last year but it was a dud. The organizer defected and I don't think a winner was ever declared.
Up to you all but why go through the riggers of a contest to find no nothing at the end, just wonders.
Cheers,
Gary
IIRC several people posted pictures, but only a few people voted... Anyway I'm willing to participate again. I would prefer FSU (strictly Soviet Union origin)camera & lens, but will accept wider options.

I've already put two rolls of film through my Kiev ll and to be honest I'd forgotten what a pain in the arse the damned thing is to use. I hate the lift and turn shutter speed dial, the viewfinder is an abomination and re-learning the 'Contax Grip' to avoid covering the rangefinder window with a finger has been a trip down memory lane I could have well done without. And oh yes ... lets not forget the floppy aperture dial on the J-3! :bang:
That said ... it's a great camera!

Joao, the competition is already underway,
Hahaha, Keith, I lost a contactlens a week ago, still waiting on the replacement. Do you know it's very annoying to focus a Zorki I wearing glasses?! Well it is!

Keith, impressed you've already shot a couple of films- hell, I've only clocked a couple of frames. I can't get used to the Contx grip either- well not if I have to shoot quickly...
