I got really excited about this when I discovered this thread today! My wife and I have a Sunday in Atlanta in March - passing through on our way back to Miami from Calif. and visiting our son and family on the way. But, no time to visit the Museum.

However, it would be really cool to fly up for a meeting on April 16. Please keep me posted. I'll bookmark this thread in any case. Great idea, folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be great, Tom! If you would like, just put your name on the list on your next post!:)

We should make this a fixed annual regional RFF meeting so that more people can plan on attending future meetings.

April 16th is the set date.

Dave,
It depends on the activity level of the Atanta based RFF members. If you can sustain monthly meetings locally, and then have an annual regional meeting, that would be manageable. It would be similar to the California regional RFF group.

Raid, that is a great idea...we need to discuss this thought in detail!

Regarding April 16, I am working on some locations for field trips including the Atlanta History Center, Botanical Gardens, Dogwood Festival and more. I would love for suggestions for both a morning field trip and/or an afternoon trip.

Dave--FYI--a "field trip" might include walkiing around the High Museum area itself.
Lots of old churches, new buildings and the funk of Juniper Street and Piedmont Park..lots to see.

i am in favor of the dogwood festival if the weather is nice.

About the first week of April we will need a list of the BBQ attendees and any food issues as we are happy to make sure everyone eats!

As an aside...neither Lori or I drink. All attendees are welcome to come over and get blotto but you will need to bring your own booze :)

Reminder for this Saturday, Jan. 29, a few of us will be at the Varsity to discuss the itinerary for April 16th, if you want to go, please PM me and we can exchange contact information.

So far, it looks like:

- (Me)
- Gray Fox (John W)
- Paul
- Atlcruiser (David Dearborn)

If I am forgetting someone or you just found out you can be there, look for me at the Varsity, upstairs in the big room overlooking the Georgia Tech campus and the downtown connector. I will be the one with a green Leica M3 sitting on the table.:p

I was stationed at NAS Atlanta near Smyrna/Marietta back in the mid 80's. I might be able to make a day trip or stay a night. Wouldn't be but a 5 hr drive for me. (as long as I85 stays clear through Greenville):D The HCB exhibit would be great. Love to meet you all.

Greg, how about signing up? We need ya, buddy!:D

I enjoyed my one brief visit to Atlanta. I liked the city a lot, very accessable and comfortable for a first time visitor.

Hi, Rover,:)

Just remember, it is WARM in Atlanta in April.... can we entice you to drive down for a couple of days? Spring time...flowers...great food...and, of course, great RFF folks!!!!;)

Dave--thanks for setting all this up!
I'm really looking forward to it--11:00AM is the time, yes?
And a green M3 shouldn't be hard to spot...:)

Paul,

Yes, sir...11:00 am. I thought about wearing my GT yellow hoodie...but then I would look like everybody else! Dang, wish I had a Leica or RFF sweatshirt...:p

Come ready for brainstorming, because I lost my brain and new ones are just too expensive.

This will be fun...Can't wait!:)
