Georgia 2011 RFF Meet-Atlanta

Good news from MARTA!

I just received an email back from Cara Hodgson at Marta and she will be sending me a letter for all RFF members to carry with them in case they have a run-in with security whilst using their cameras. In general, there is no problem, but having a letter to present to them would be enormously helpful!:cool::cool:

When I receive the letter, I will post it for all to use whether on the train, bus or walking.:)

I just saw this thread for the first time Wednesday.

I'm trying to put ducks in a row to get myself down there for this. If I come, I'm driving down from NC. I don't know if GB Hill wants to carpool or not; but we actaully aren't too far from each other. I'd like to drive down Friday night, but I'm having a hard time finding a hotel that I'm comfortable splurging on that won't also soak me with parking charges. Therefore, I may just roll down early Saturday morning.

Finally, Dave Lackey...do you have a bicycle these days? I'd love to drag down a bike for a Sunday road ride if you're up for it.

I'm staying at the Artmore, arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday. I'm not renting a car - planning to use MARTA and catch a ride with one of you with a car, as necessary.

Hey, Barry...man, that would help Greg out a lot. Give him a shout!

Lodging is much cheaper south of town in Newnan (hint: don't stay any closer to Atlanta than that...) and you could ride with me or Gray Fox. Or, park your car at a MARTA lot (cheap) and ride the train in for $2...

Bring your bike and plan on the Silver Comet Trail Sunday if you have time! I do have a loaner bike that I have ready to go but haven't ridden in 18 months so I am bad out of shape. Might make it for a short ride if things work out. I think the local Trek shop has a ride schedule for Sunday am in Peachtree City which is even better...I will check with Lisa and let you know.:)

Okay Dave...sorry to leave you hanging for a couple days. I'm not sure what to make of the Silver Comet Trail. I've never ridden a rail trail. Not that I don't want to, just that I haven't. The only negative I have for it is that it's on the wrong side of ATL for someone that has to drive NE back home for 4+ hours. Also if that is what we were to ride, should I bring the Fuji commuter bike or my new (to me) De Rosa racing bike. I would imagine the Fuji would be a better choice. Let me know.

Of course a lot of this would hinge on what Greg wants to do if we carpool. I have sent him a pm.

my bride will accompany me, so that will be two of for the barbecue. :)

That is really good news, Paul. Tell your wife we'll be looking forward to meeting both of you!!:D

Yeah, the Silver Comet trail is really nice when you have the time. Rode it a couple of years ago for about 35 miles round trip in 3 hours. Depending on where you are staying, a hook up pretty much anywhere around Atlanta is possible. Lots of folks riding.

Just logistics. Let me know where you want to stay. If ya'll are down Newnan or Peachtree City way, (preferable for bikes and cost), then it's easy. It just adds about 45 minutes to your drive home going through Atlanta and on Sunday, traffic is no problem.

Well Greg and I are trying to work out a plan. I don't know right now if a bike ride will work or not. I don't have any problem bringing a bike down with me since I have a small wagon. The only thing for me is which bike to bring.

Right now, Greg and I have to see what will work for both of us.

Barry, it seems the Artmore is where others are staying. It is in walking distance to the High Museum. Don't know anything about it.

Too many choices ... for instance, the Artmore is twice as much as the Hampton Inn in Newnan ($79) and a little more than the Hampton Inn in Peachtree City ($149). I am sure price differences are the same all around Atlanta. Go cheaper, drive into town. Pay more and walk. :)

Or, you can try to get close to a MARTA station and ride the train downtown.

Never having stayed in a hotel in Atlanta, can't help you much.

I've had some things come up and I'm not going to be able to make it. I am really, really frustrated with what's going on and the fact that it's keeping me from doing something I was looking forward to so much. :bang:

I can't wait to see the pictures!
