I recently got the 21/2,8, and really like the lens. I'm using it on my M8, and the Zeiss hood mostly blocks the viewfinder. The focusing patch, there's only a double image in the upper third of it.

It's a nice hood, but I need a different one. Does anyone have a recommendation for a hood that will work?

No, it's me; or rather, my new glasses. They were hitting the magnifier, and my eye was off-center. Off-center down, and the hood blocks some of the patch.

I got these frames because I thought they'd be less of a problem....

Heavystar sells a nice little metal hood that goes by the description of 46mm + wide. It's short and doesn't vignette at all if used on the 21 ZM f/2.8 without a filter. With a filter, I think it may have vignetted a bit perhaps halfway into the smaller apertures. My lens is on loan at this moment or else I'd check & post results. It's coming back tomorrow or the next day & I can post a few jpgs of how it reacts with a filter on.

The vented 46mm wide hoods could also work, but they are too long and would have to be cut down by at least 1cm to not vignette. Easy enough with a dremel tool or even ginger use of a hacksaw.

If you're using filters, you could just get a cheap 46mm filter and take the glass out. It would shade it enough. I've found it hard to flare the 21ZM anyways without a filter, so I used the hood mostly for protection.

I have the 21 2.8 biogon with rectangular hood and it does indeed block a bit of the focusing patch, especially in closer up distances. In the future I will get a 28mm hood for it and be done with it.
