21/4 Color Skopar or 15/4.5 Heliar

Ok so theres a potential that I'll actually sell my 180mm lens for the cost it takes to get a 21/4 Color Skopar. But then I noticed the 15/4.5 Heliar is not that much more. So I got to thinking. Do I want to go wide, or do I want to go even wider. How much of a difference is there between the 21/4 and 15/4.5, please do know if there are in usability issues like the way they handle, feel etc. I understand both come with the viewfinders.

Also I'm already informed that the 21/4 will fit fine into a Canon P, but what about the 15/4.5?

Also I have the following lens
Jupiter-12 35mm f/2.8 , Canon 50mm f/1.8 and Jupiter-3 50mm f/1.5

So the thought going thru my head is that the Jupiter-12 thus far is a good 35mm for me, and that if I go wide then maybe I should increase the distance between 35mm and the wider lens to make it a more significant difference.
 
21mm is wide...15mm is way wide. (How's that for a technical description?)

If you like wide, you'll want both. The 21mm is more versitile, but the 15mm can be used for very cool effects.
DOF at 15mm is so great that they could just about eliminate the focus ring.

I've shot at these FLs with DSLRs quite a bit, but just received my 15mm heliar today and 21mm skopar last week. So I can't say much past what the FLs are like.

I have the 15/4.5 and love it for the extra-wide look. I have a 25/4 that goes between my 40/1.4 and it, when I need it. My old Leica 21/2.8 distorted people to much for me. Every 21 has a different signature so the CV might be very different from the Leica.

I can highly recomend the 25 and 15 lens as being worth twice every penny the cost. CV lenses are well thoughtout and executed. Together, I think they make a great combo.

Two ways I've approached ultra-wide angle lens use.
(Both these images are OT, from a 10-22mm lens on a DSLR at 10mm, or 16mm equivalent on 35mm film or FF digital. They do serve to illustrate my point, so I hope no obejctions.)

1) Don't fight the distortion. Go with it to dramatic effect.

2) Take advantage of the massive DOF and put the foreground to use.

Ok...there's a third way of approaching that fov...be very, very careful and fix any distortion in photoshop after scanning.
 
The way I'm thinking of it, is I already got a semi-wide normal lens (Jupiter-12), and at second thought I'm thinking a 'special' perspective lens is what I'm aiming for. So hard to decide sometimes.

Did we confirm if the 15mm would have any problems with the light baffles on the Canon P or not?

35mm horizontal fov is 54.4 deg
21mm horizontal fov is 81.2 deg
15mm horizontal fov is 100.4 deg

The difference between 35mm and 21mm is already huge. The 21mm is the more versitile lens, as already noted. The 15mm will give you that "special" perspective.

I have no idea about your canon and compatibility.

Simply put does the 15mm have a bigger diamerter for a back element than my J-12.

If it is bigger in diameter in that or goes back much futher than it will not fit.
 
I'm thinking bout getting the 15mm then. I sent him an email regarding shipping and such. I'm hoping that he's one of those people that send out the lens within a day after receiving payment either by paypal or other kinda like I do at the store I work at.

It would be the first time I've ever ordered anything from cameraquest.

Well now it's a matter of Black or Chrome on my Canon P, which would look better. To give an idea heres a shot with my Chrome 50mm f/1.8 and my Black Jupiter-12

* The 15mm is so wide I even once managed to get my nose in the shot (and it's not very big, honest)

* The 21 is much more usable, and still very wide - it's a really nice focal length.

* The 15mm protrudes less into the camera body than the J-12, and the rear element is smaller (It's made for Bessa cameras, and the J-12 is too big to fit those).
 
I also vote for the 21mm! I use it since summer and it´s a very nice FL..great for architecture and even street (if you keep the people centered) the only example of edge distortion I´ve got is this one were the peoples heads go a little US-football shape:

The resolution of this lens strikes me every time I use it (even at f4 it´s acceptable) and the vignetting could be alot worst.. my Orion-15 28mm had more vignetting at f8 than the skopar at f4!!
