Just got my R2A and 21/4.

Thanks, Stephen.

Got a problem. With my right eye in the 21's viewfinder, my nose homes in directly in the regular viewfinder. Ugh!

I've had to clean it 3 times in the past 2 hours.

Any tips? 🙂

Pay a visit a to your local, friendly plastic surgeon...

Stu 🙂

funny...saw this thread and dug out mine, wondering why it had never bothered me......and realised that because i'm left eyed my nose is nowhere near the finder. of course, i'm always getting my thumb in my right eye, but hey.......

Manolo,
Been thinking of that. I already need an L or at least a Fed 4 body for the 35/2.8 Jupiter-12 I got off begay... Humm....

JohnM,
Didn't think of that! 🙂 Oddly, I just tried it and it actually works well... for the first two shots, after which I'll be hauled off to the place with the nice people and the white coats! 😉

Stu,
I actually have a small, pert nose. It's not that it's long... it's that it's in the wrong place. And while I'm sure it could be relocated to somewhere below my chin, I kind of like it there. 😉

Peter_n,
I'll have to go look up that double-shoe thing. Although the nose bag sounds more economical. Good also during the winter... *ewwwww*

Tim,
Small price to pay to have a pristine viewfinder. 😉

Thanks for the help (or not, some of you!!!) 🙂

Become left-eyed. I am already. I don't know why I am, anymore than I know why some people are right-eyed rather than left-eyed. I think our brains one day early on just made an arbitrary decision. Tell your brain, and I mean in no uncertain terms, that the honeymoon is over. One arbitrary decision deserves another.

A very tough problem indeed. But it wouldn't be a problem limited to just the 21/4 would it? I mean any external finder would cause the same grief right? Maybe a small piece of tape would do the trick.

I'd also like to second that an L and the 21/4 works very well. However, I've heard that most Jupiter 12s don't fit the L or any other bessa because of a baffle near the meter.

Hmmm... over the main viewfinder/rangefinder? Wouldn't that totally obscure the view?

I'm wondering if I can't cut a bit of material from a PDA screen protector and plaster it into the circle. Not an optimal solution, but at least I can keep cleaning it without fearing scratching that circular protector.

Speaking of which, does anyone know whether that little circular screw-off protector can be bought? That would be convenient -- scratch it up, and then just replace that piece. It seems like it was designed for that.

Oh.... bummer. I thought I read that most J-12s fit the L, and none of the others.

Hmm... maybe it is a Fed 4 body then. Bleh.

I think we can all see the wisdom in Nikon positioning the mirror-up finders over the rewind knob. Do you "actually" need to use the RF with the 21/4? Can you put a viewfinder cover in place and zone focus while using the lens? I would imagine if it did not come with one, several Cosina made SLR eyepiece covers would fit. They are required for auto-exposure on a tripod, so light entering the viewfinder will not mess up the exposure.

That's a good idea - Since the RF stops at 0.8m, and this is exactly in the range where the RF is, it can be more confusing than no RF at all.

On the topic of the L and J-12, I just tried, and it'll mount at close focus, but is stopped at 3m focus - so a no-go unfortunately. I'd still get the L for the prices it can be found at the moment though - remember that CV don't make a mechanical -shutter RF camera anymore, so it could be a useful backup in an emergency.

I forgot where I read this ...... "a Nikon FM2/FM3A eyepiece is fit for R3A", so I think it may fit R2A also. And you can try to find that cover which Brian just mentioned above, Cosina made or Nikon made. Good luck! 🙂

I have exactly the same problem with an R-D1 and Tewe zoom viewfinder, so it's not just your specific combination.

The real bummer is that you still need to see through the regular eyepiece to use the RF, so taping it over isn't really an option.

I suppose one way around it would be to add one of those Cosina double-shoe attachments, so you could relocate the aux viewfinder to a location that eliminates nose/eyepiece interaction.

I think maybe I'll just wear a Band-aid on the end of my nose...

Brian,

Hmm. Mmm.... I think that will be the most usable solution. I still use a 50/2 on the body, so when I use the 20, I can just pop the cover on and off as needed and zone focus or put it into hyperfocus (most often the case.)

I'll look for those Nikon FM2/3A/10 finders cups/covers. The thing is, I used to use an old FM-10 rubber rectangular eyecup on the back of my R2 (got tired of the plastic scratching my glasses), but the R2A uses a new circular thing... will have to go look for those.

Thanks everyone!

Nose in Finder issue

Nose in Finder issue

I too would recommend Getting a Bessa L for the price it is an awesome deal.

second solution is to invest in a low angle finder?
