Hello guys,

Quick question:
I am considering getting the 21mm Super Angulon 3.4 for my M8. But I read a few places that the Angulon was not suited for the M8. Is this correct?

Thanks 🙂

The SA's rear element protrudes far into the body and will cover the metering cell so that you can't use your meter. I'm not sure if used on the M8 and M9 it may damage the shutter.

I liked it on the M8 it works fine, if I was going for something wide on the M8 now I may have gone for CV 12mm or 15mm. Quite a lot of money just for a 28mm 3.4.
As previously said meters about 2-3 stops out but that doesn't matter on the digital.

I use a 3.4 SA on my M8 and it works fine although there is no metering (I guestimate then check the histogram - surprisingly accurate). I also use Cornerfix to deal with vignetting and colour casts and really like the results from the lens. Here's an illustration of the effectiveness of the lens/Cornerfix.

I should have added that its a great B&W lens with a real old feel to its images due to the vignetting but still very sharp. I owned one, sold it, but bought another - one of my favourite lenses.

I had a hazy copy of this lens which made some really odd files on the M8. Looked great with BW, but poor on the M8. After a cleaning it was firing like new.

Just to be clear, the 21/3.4 SA mounts on the M9 with no issues, and no, it does not damage the shutter. To use the M9 meter, just compensate the exposure by -2 2/3 or -3 and you are good to go , just as JSU stated for his M8.2. You will have the reddist color cast on the left and right edges of the photograph.
