21mm For Film Leica M

Are there SA 21mm versions that can harm a sensor ? I see online SA lenses that look different from each other.

Raid, you might get more answers if you start a dedicated thread...... since the title of this one is "21 mm for Film Leica M"

Well, I stand corrected!
But I know I'm right about the M5 and CL - the rear of the lens will interfere with the metering arm.
Helen: Can you also confirm the M6 meter doesn't work with the 21mm SA?
You are correct re:
21 f3.4 with M5
EXCEPT with a late serial # on the 21 SA

Tom A. in our many long talks about the SA
told me
just cannot remember if
it was
serial # 245 xxx OR 275xxx which works without trouble on the M5 meter

I have used her on the M6 - no issues , different type of meter

Dedicated thread? - Look here.
Apparently, use on digital does come with some compromises.
Raid actually asked a # of questions about use on digital... like the comparison of the SA 3.4 with the 4....as well as the "sensor harm" question

Ken Rockwell said this: The LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH is LEICA's best ultrawide lens ever made at any price. It is ultrasharp at every aperture, has negligible distortion, is small, light and takes common 46mm filters, and for the first time since 1958's SUPER-ANGULON 21mm f/4, has a proper 9-bladed diaphragm for superior 18-pointed sunstars

With film cameras I have several excellent options for very wide angle lenses. The Hologon is OK with B&W digital.
1. Hasselblad SWC
2. Zeiss Hologon in M mount 16mm/8
3. Canon 19mm ltm
4. Minolta Rokkor 21mm 4
5. Nikkor 20mm/4 (for the Nikon F2)

Raid since this thread is about 21mm for film...... how does the Hologon (albeit 16mm) work for that?

I just mentioned my options for using a very wide angle lens, and this includes the Rokkor 21/4. The other non-21mm lenses are my options. Sorry if it falls outside the tange of discussions in this thread.

I don't mean disrespect
re: Mr Rockwell

it's just aside from his vast Encyclopedic
knowledge he has thrown together from various sources
His photography has
NO Heart or Soul

hence I find my info
from 'othets'
I am not a fan of Ken Rockwell. Sorry about mentioning him here.

I take it all back 🙂
Forgive me.
It's all good Raid...In the several months since chuckroast started this thread. He's chosen and bought one. But to go back to the assessment of the latest Leica M 21mm..... the latest & sharpest lens may not be the choice for all of our photography. In LF I used to have a few of the "best" ...90mm Super Angulon XL, & Rodenstock Apo-Sironar S.... I tired of their clinical perfection & ended up with a few Goerz Dagors and Commercial Ektars. I still like prefer my Rolleiflex w the Tessar (even especially in 20x24" enlargments).... & the older Leica LTM lenses are hard to beat.... & circle back... the 21mm Super-Angulon 3.4 has lots of admirers....
