Tom, it wasn't cross processed, it was Ektachrome Infrared. and I mostly used an orange filter with it because it's also sensitive to UV and blue light. It photographs the chlorophyl (sp?) in healthy vegetation as red. It was used a lot for low level arial photos to spot deseased trees and crops. It would also distinguish cammoflage from real vegetation. It was about twice the price of regular Ektachrome, maybe ASA (now ISO 20) with that filter, but since your meter wouldn't read I.R., and the amount of it varies a lot, you had to do a lot of bracketing. It only came in 20 exposure cassettes and you had to send it to a custom lab to make sure they wouldn't fog it. You had to load and unload the camera in total darkness, then put the film in a black cannister because the black felt light trap on the cassette wasn't I.R. safe. It was expensive, and a pain in the a$$, but I made some good money shooting it. I miss it.

As a side note, a guy who lives a couple of hundred miles north of here was googling his wife's maiden name and came across my photos of her on the 'net. I told him that I also had a bunch of B&W photos of her. We're supposed to get together in September. I'll get to shoot more pix of her in the same locations. He says she's still a small slender woman, but now she's 57, not 16. Should be interesting!

The original Ektachrome Infrared shot of Nancy was posted May 8, 2006 in my blog. The foliage is red, the skin tone close to normal, and the B&W dress is B&W. It's one of my all time favorite pictures! Check it out.

Great stuff . Brings back memories, I have trays of K64 from the mid 70`s all shot in Bath. Back on thread those SA shots look great. I`ve been admiring Helen`s work with this lens for some time. There are two for sale over here at present. An f4 for about £600 at Red Dot and a 3.4 at Aperture for £995.

The 3.4/21 SA, definitely the most metaphysical of all the M lenses I have used. Have had it for more than 25 years and still use it as a 27mm on the M8 and vignetting is less. Old style optic for B&W mainly but awesome in sharpness, if you use it on the M8 wear an IR filtre. If you own one don't ever sell it. Where I come from it easily fetches $2000.

I notices that Deepwater from Taiwan is using his SA 21/3.4 with his CLE. I am wondering will the 21/3.4 will fit on the CL as both the CL and CLE is pretty much the same, will someone be able to do the measurement of how deep is the rear element extended and the diameter of the rear element as well? I want to know if it can be fitted.

Thanks
Ed

I think the 21/3.4 can't be used with the CL because this camera has a swing-out style meter-arm (same as the M5). With the M5, when there is no lens mounted, the arm doesn't swing out so one can "fool" the M5 (with a modified flange) and use the SA 21/3.4. Not sure if this works with the CL.

You are correct, the CLE don't have the swing arm. Just checked, the arm will swing out when winding to the next frame, no matter with lens or not, and there is only 1.4 cm length from the lens mount to the meter. And by judging from pic of the lens, the rear element extend into the camera is more that 2cm, close to 3cm I guess.

The corners are plain unsharp, so this is no contender to my C Biogon, but the gray scale rendering is beautiful.

Hey, I never used the S.A. The 15 is too much fun! Truth is I bougt a "sack of old cameras" from an antique dealer friend a few years ago for $500. I later found out that he'd paid $25 for the lot at an estate auction! Nobody else bid on it. Everything was borderline pristine. I kept some items and sold off the beat up examples of the same stuff I already had or didn't need. I kept the M2 and M3 bodies, the Rollei35, the Leica cl with the 40 'con, and the 28, 90 and 135 Elmarits, but I rarely use 28mm lenses. After awhile I swapped the 28 with a guy on P-net for the 21 S.A. He felt guilty that it was a black paint 28 and worth more money than he thought so he gifted me with another M2 body.

Since I have zero money in the 21 due to the lucky buys and swaps I'm figuring that it must be worth at least $6,500 if only because it's a charmed lens. With that level of luck attached to it Dan should have no trouble swapping it for a couple of Summilux equipped M8's.

Of course it's capital gains!
