28 mm f/2.8 vs Summarit 35 f/2.5

I have a chance to purchase either the 28 mm f/2.8 or the new Summarit 35 mm f/2.5. The difference in price is only $75(usd). I plan on using with the M8, I know that they are two different lengths, but very close. I have read the Reid reviews on the Summarit series, but I wanted some input from some M8 users. Is the quality of the lenses similar, way different, or what? Thanks

The 28 will function as a 35mm and the 35 will be close to 50mm on the M8. Really hard to compare. It is personal taste. I myself would go for the 28mm. The 28/2.8 will perform wonderfully on the M8. I have an older version ll Elmarit. Which version are you thinking of?

I own a 28mm f/2.8 Aspheric (latest version) and it is my preferred lens on my M8. I also have a 35mm (Voigtlander f/1.2, great performer but too bulky as a walkaround lens) and a 50mm (Carl Zeiss f/1.5, very small and light, good performer), but the 28mm is by far my preferred focal length on the M8 for street photography which is the main usage I have of my M8 so far.

Also, I absolutely love the small form factor including with the hood which makes it very easy to carry and very discreet when I start shooting with it.

On film 35's, I tend to prefer a 35 or 40mm lens as the default standard, so I naturally favor the 28mm 'cron on my M8 (likewise 75mm for the 6x7 and 24mm for the dSLR).

Your two candidate lenses are about the same speed, and I expect both will be excellent optically and handily compact... so the choice boils down to your personal preference. Consider how you expect to use the camera and what focal lengths you like for that kind of work, then apply the 1.33x "crop factor" and go with the result.

I had a summarit 35mm but i found the view tad narrow. so I traded with a 28mm ASPH and everything is well.
but it really is up to your shooting style

I would have to go with the 28mm. My 28mm stays mounted most the time. I consider it my "normal lens"

The 35mm is a different beast to me and would not do for my walking around.

MUCH depends on YOU and what you like to shoot! Buying a lens for any other reason is a mistake.
