My 28mm Ultron 1.9 has received a hell of bashing since I've had it (I'm not really sure why its more battered than other lenses I've had for longer but maybe its the size?!) and I've had it apart so many times to lube the focus mechanism, as it siezes stiff around the 1-2m mark, that it may be getting a wee bit unreliable and wobbly.
As such I'm thinking about a replacement. With film bodies I tend to just use 50mm and 35mm but with the M8 it is a useful length as a 'rough' 35mm...and it obviously comes in useful with the film bodies from time to time.
I'd like to keep the costs, well, respectable. I've just got another D3x through work and with economies as they are I don't wish to spend mega bucks.
I also know that I could buy another Ultron second hand, I don't want a whacking great silver lens on a black camera ( I know the Panda look is loved by many but I really don't need to see your photos of them, thanks!) so it would have to be a second hand black one. However, I would like to know from fellow RF'ers experience what is available and works for them at that focal length - also, any suggestions as to what really works with the M8 for the 'rough' 35mm length would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Why not buy a 2nd hand black Ultron?
Or the newer 28mm f/2 Ultron?
Or the newer 28mm f/2 Ultron?

Voigtlander has replaced the 1.9/28 with a new 2.0/28. It blocks a lot less of the viewfinder, even with the hood mounted. Price is about the same and build quality looks pretty good. Tom A is very fond of this lens.
Zeiss makes a 2.8/28 that is very good and cheaper than the Leica.
Leica makes the 2.8/28 and 2.0./28, but obviously they are expensive.

The sensible option would be to get another 28/1.9 but I thought I'd see if anyone raved about any lenses in particular.
I'll certainly check out the Zeiss options as I love my 50/2 Planar.

I like the optical performance of my Ultron 28/1.9 but regret its large physical size.
The newer Ultron 28/2.0 would seem to be a better option but I haven't handled one yet.

I have a black Ultron f1.9; a litle big but perfectly useable. I like the slight low contrast at wide aperture. I'd recommend getting one of these - they should be around 300 pounds s/h.

If you liked Ultron that much, then I would suggest to go with another Ultron. I have one and I like it very much. It's a bit larger, but there is not many choice for fast, wide and not so expensive...

We should talk - I'm going to sell mine before too long.

Talk to Ken, great guy who takes really good care of his stuff (I've seen it).
Another option is to send it around to Don (DAG) to see what he can do. He worked wonders on some older Komura glass I had a while back. Perhaps as you like it so much pick up Kens and send yours over to DAG for a fixing/CLA. My gut tells me she was hit and went wonky (decided to stiffen up at 1M) at some point. Not sure of cost but I hate throwing stuff out.
