2nd Roll through my new R2A + Jupiter-3 50mm f/1.5

What a good series. I really like number 2 - very surreal. Keep up the good work.

My J-3 will occasionally vignette like this in very bright light with a filter AND certain hoods. You may want to experiment with a couple of different hoods or hood filter combinations. A silly thought I just had, but you might also try putting the filter in front of the hood, if the hood's ring is threaded.

Thanks Bill, on subsequent rolls I have removed the filter. We'll see how that works. The owner of the lens has ordered a new hood for it that should eliminate this problem.
 
I have a J3 and agree, it is great for B/W~

Very sharp and nice rendering, here is a sample with Ilford Delta 100:

The J3 is mine. :D :D I'm glad that Ken is enjoying the lens and that he is using it to make wonderful photographs. Our town has some charismatic spots but unfortunately there are usually very few people in the streets to photograph. Unless there is some sort of community event happening, its hard to find people out and about even in the summer time. We have a very automobile-centric population and the once vibrant down-town area that Ken is photographing, is not as automobile-friendly as the newer areas in the north that are dominated by superstores and strip-malls. However the desolate streets and the decaying down-town landscape does offer nice opportunities and Ken does a great job in photographing it.

The vignetting is from the humongous metal Fedka hood (a close copy of the original Zeiss hood for the 50 Sonnar) and a cheap Bower filter, which has a filter-ring that is a bit on the thick side. I have a vented hood coming from HeavyStars and will pass it on to Ken as soon as it arrives - should be any day now. I can vouch that this particular J3 is one fantastic lens all thanks to Brian Sweeney for working his magic on it.
 
Yah I don't think tourism Sault Ste Marie would appreciate my location choices. Thanks again for the loaner.
 
The tourism people in the Soo need a reality-check but that's beyond the scope of this thread. The Soo, at heart, is a tough industrial town and I think its important to remind people of that. Keep it up Ken.

Haha I'm not going to keep your F'ing lens, Fernando. I would probably buy it off you though.

Once I get the wide open shots back we'll talk :D
 
Nice stuff - like the quality of the lens too. You are right about the shooting "tests" - quite often you find pictures just because you are looking to finish off a roll.
You should definitely start processing your own - just keep the chemicals in a locked cabinet! Life is much better with a 60-90 minute turn around from finishing the roll to holding a dripping wet strip of negatives in you hands!
In many ways, shooting in a small town is easier. Soon people will become used to you carrying the camera and taking pictures and will not only accept it, but probably encourage it too. Another benefit is that you only have to explain what you are doing once "Oh, I am only trying a lens, a developer or a film" and within micro seconds the whole town will know and accept it. They will probably also tell you what they find interesting and point you there.
 
I need(want) a faster 50 for my Bessa R2 and this lens looks like a good candidate. Good results for not a lot of money.

Oh, and does anyone know what happened to Brian Sweeney? Have not seen or heard from him in ages.
 
I still want a 35mm and maybe a 28mm. Really I should have gotten an R4A for the lenses I'm interested in. I think for me at this point in the game an R2A was still a better choice for me than a Leica CL which is what I originally had my heart set on as a first M-mount camera.

I'm expecting at least 1 roll of PanF 50 shots back tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.

Yah Tom. Not to mention the cost involved. Toronto is a 9-hour drive and it gets sent by courier there from the local labs so that is built in to the cost.
 
Thanks CCCP, I'm too lazy to scan more.

Nando gave me the vented hood recently which helps a lot. The other hood obscured the viewfinder too much.
