I recently picked up a nice 35/3.5 Summaron which came in the original (?) screw case but it didn''t come with a lens cap. Does anyone know where I might be able to get one?

It doesn't even have to be an original leica, something generic would do so long as it provides some protection while attached to the camera.

I have both the earlier Summaron (which I use on an LTM ) and a later one (which I use on M series cameras.) As an aside, I would have been happy with just the LTM on and LTM to M adapter but the M mount one turned up first and of course does not work on the LTM, so now I have two. One day I may sell, but I find it hard to part with these beauties (Leica kit I mean.)

As stated in a previous post the earllier one is a 36mm and the later a 39mm although there is a late LTM version with the same appearance as the M one andof course this also tkaes the larger cap. I find that the later lens caps are considerably easier to find than the earlier ones and to make matters worse the 36mm LTM lenses often come without a cap for some reason.

However, I have seen on the i'net, a replica of the earlier cap somewhere - molded in black plastic and complete with the Leica insignia. You may want to do a Google. I am Australian based and have not seen a local source of these but if you are USA based I think you might be more lucky. You could of course also you keep your eye out on eBay.

I have also found one generic LTM sized cap in a camera store "junk" bin and make a point of searching these whenever I find one.

Try Stephen Gandys site. There is just a chance that he may advertise them. (I have not checked for a while but I know I have seen reference to these replcias somewhere on the i'net and have a rough recollection it just might be there)

Also if you are going to Japan or know someone who is apparently replicac caps are available there. The following post talls about such replica caps for Summarits.

Just found this link, taking the hint from an earlier post. If yours is a 39mm then you are in luck. The Leica copy one for the earlier lens while not stocked by B&H appears identical to the first one on this page (apart from its size.)

My 39mm version uses the chrome cap whi;le the earlier one would not look out of place with either chrome or black.

My last 35/3.5, screw, for which I had the correct FOOKH hood, came with a Leitz cap made of bakelite. It would fit over the lens and inside the hood when that was mounted.

Unfortunately the FOOKH is almost as pricey as the lens! I am hoping to either get lucky finding a cheap one or find a generic version...

So far as I know, G, there is no generic copy of the FOOKH. That hood has the advantage of being small enough to be kept permanently mounted. Lack of depth, though, is always a failing in a hood. Since the Summaron 35/3.5 rotates as a whole when focus changes, you're pretty much stuck with a round hood unless you have the time to re-align a rectangular one for each exposure. I have a large round hood (push-on, of course) for my present Summaron and am working on a cap for it which will have a rectangular aperture. I plan to line it with velvet so that it can be easily rotated without rotating the lens front too. The current prices of the FOOKH are, I think, absurd.
