Guys,

I love the f1.4 bokeh on my Lux-R lenses with my Canon 5D. Now as stated previously, it's the R glass that drawn me to Leica in the first place so I intend to get a Leica glass for my M2.

Looking at the Cron f2 or lux f1.4 locally in Singapore but I am clueless about the different version and which is the best for my M body. I am leaning towards newer lens so I won't have to send it for CLA. What's your thoughts? Any advice?

Btw, is it advisable to go new on the lux? Can my old M2 take the 6-bit coded lens? Any issues? How much can i expect for a new lux?

This is a huge topic and it will come down to what your preferences are in terms of rendering. I recommend looking at the images in this group to see which lenses' rendering you prefer. Respectfully, thomas.

Dear Zoomp,

Here is a link regarding the price of leica lens

As thomas said, it all comes down to what you need/want, etc.

As for the characteristics of each lens, do a search on the forums and i'm sure you'll be able to pull up TONS of information on luxes & crons of various versions. In the end, you will be the one making the decision, based on your own criterias: rendering, contrast, sharpness, price, etc.

I don't think 6 bit coding affects the usage on your m2. Using a 6 bit coded cron on an m2 myself without any issues.

Regardless of age/etc, if the lens was kept improperly, especially in crazily humid lion city, you'll be faced with the same issues that plague old lenses, from fogging/fungus, etc.

As for new lenses, if your pocket's deep enough, and you don't mind contributing to the coffers of Cathay and the others, why not?

Have fun!

As for prices, i mentioned before in a previous thread (yours i think), pricing in Singapore, on the local forums such as clubsnap, are all over the place.

I personally found it almost impossible to get a ballpark figure for an elmarit 28 sometime back, getting figures that were all over the place, together with sellers that didn't even KNOW which version they were selling.

The website above http://www.antiquecameras.net/leicamlenses.html is an amazing site, and i usually +/- 10-15% depending on where i'm selling/buying. (fleabay, forums, etc) As such, do your homework, and i'm sure you'll be able to snag a good deal locally, or over here on RF.

best,
Trev

No matter which one you acquire there wil be situations when you'll wish for more speed, smoother bokeh, better handling, a different hood style, threading to fit the filters you already have. Go look in the mirror and you'll find where the "issues" are. Insecurity, indecisivness, confusion, desire, lust, all grouped under the broad category of GAS. Right now I'm using a black version two Summicron myself. I sold my black paint version one when it became too valuable to take out in public. This one has too much black finish missing to get a collector's blood flowing.

Have no idea about which lens (35 or 50) you have in the R series but the bokeh of the M 35mm lux (esp aspherical) is harsh in bright light. I use a 35 asph lux on an M2 regularly.

Also, why do you want to buy one in Singapore? Camera equipment here is not really competitively priced and you could certainly get better deals on M gear else where.

New 35 Lux is about S$5400 (I asked last week!), but could be cheaper. Almost bought one to replace my 35 summicron ASPH because, as Al Kaplan said:" Insecurity, indecisivness, confusion, desire, lust, ...".

How prices change ...I bought my 35 Asph Lux, new, back in 2002 for SGD$3,000. I later bought the 90mm SAA in Beijing, in 2004 also for SGD$3,000; and the 21mm Asph Elmarit from Hong Kong in 2005 for SGD$4,000, again, all new.

I suggest you take a close look at the Nokton 35/1.2 shots. The bokeh is superb, and according to many, this lens is sharper than the Summilux, but it is also bigger. See what works for you.

hey, its a decent lens the VC 35,1.2 but Im not a fan of its bokeh. Look at the lux one... Then again, its subjective 😉 really depends on your wallet. Leica lenses are like shares, going up and down every week.... Takes quite a nerd to keep track all these digits...
