I was given this lens [plus many other lenses] as a loaner by RFF members for my lens testing. It works like a charm; people send me their lenses and we have 26 different lenses in the 35mm-40mm focal range.
I have never before tired out such a lens. You may benefit from taking a look at the portrait session [color] and also the flare test [B&W]. Roland's smugmug site has the test results. The link is given in Roland's thread entitled "Raid's 35mm lens test" or similar. We were impressed by the performance of the 35/1.5 in the flare test. This led me to test it more.

Tom - I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on how the 40mm's (Summicron, Rokkor & Nokton) compare to the 35's you mention.

Tom -- i wanted to post briefly to say 'thanks heaps' for your remarks about the 35mm FL. i am saving now for a speedy 3.5cm FL lens and your thoughts have helped me to come around to the fact that I don't have to save a couple grand to get the summilux in order to have a very fine 35......indeed a VC 35/1.2 will someday soon be ordered.
btw, Tom, what are your thoughts on the VC 15/4.5? have you used its .3 focussing proximity and 110 degree fov to advantage? how has the 4.5 limit affected your shots...or has it been a 'limiting' factor?
