Having just aquired a Bessa R and 35mm Color Skopar lens Im now hunting for a lens shade for it. I know the round shade comes with the kit, but I bought this used and so no lens shade. IS the round one or square one preferred? Does it make any difference? Any pics of the square shade would be very helpful. Thanks

cbettis,
Thanks. Ive emailed Stephen today and he has both. Im trying to decide which way to go. Im willing to pay the $45 for the square if it makes sense. Would you happen to have a photo of it.
Curious how it looks on the camera. Is it fairly small? Thanks again.
I didnt see a photo of the square shade on Cameraquest.

I ordered the Color Skopar 35/2.5 lens a while ago from cameraquest and am using it on my Leica M2. I also bought the square metal shade (LH-2) mentioned above. While it's very well-made (metal) and I think it's propably more effective than the round shade that comes with the lens, I have one major problem with this lens shade: It obstructs quite a bit of the viewfinder image. That's why I actually never use it, I always use the round shade, and never had problems with flare (I don't use any filters).

If I find out how to post images here, I can show you an image of the lens with the different shades... You can also take a look at the "square" shade (it's not exactly square) here, scroll down to the "50/2.5 Color Skopar" section, it takes the same square shade than the 35/2.5 lens:

I was going to say the same thing. The rectangular lens hood for the 21/25mm lenses is excellent as the viewfinder is a bit further away and above the hood. It stays on my 25mm all the time. I think the square hood for the 35mm lens was meant for the Bessa L and T due to the viewfinder position.

Nothing wrong with the round hood for the 35mm lens... Never had unexpected problems with flare when I owned the f2.5. Same goes for the f1.7.

Thanks everyone. Pete and Arthur, thanks for the detailed info. Gonna go with the round lens shade for the 35mm. Stephen at Cameraquest is selling the round lens shade to me for $20 plus shipping.

This may sound like a stupid question, but are you sure there is no lens shade already on your lens? I'm asking since the round shade included with the lens doesn't really look like a lens shade, more like it's part of the lens. I'll attach a picture of my Color Skopar *with* the round shade.

Arthur, thanks for asking. I did double check that, and I am sure there is no lens shade on there. I actually purchased it used from B&H and it didnt come with one. Beautiful camera by
the way. Im going to check out your website, it looks interesting.

Ok, just wanted to make sure you don't waste those 20 dollars...

And thanks, I love my M2! And I also think you'll like the Color Skopar, I think it's the best you can get for the money. It's no Summicron, but it's a very nice lens! :)
