40mm 1.4 Nokton MC vs. 50mm 1.5 Nokton

I am debating getting rid of my 40mm Nokton and getting a 50mm Nokton. How does the 50 compare to the 40? I'm not too concerned about the size. Really just lookin for a change. Since I got my 75 I rarely use my 40. Is it worth a sale or trade?
The crazy things we do for new equiptment when spending extra money is not an option. I recently picked up a new Pentax K100d. I really can't swing just buying a new lens.

Over all I think 40/75 is a well rounded kit. If you use the 75 most of the time do you think a 50, closer to 75, will get more use? Would going wider, 35 or 28 be more useful?

So, the R3a is a bit limiting......I don't know, the 75 is really nice on that camera. The wider the better with an external finder because generally you will be closer to your subject and composition tends to be "looser." Maybe a 21 is in order?

You need some standard lens though don't you? Maybe a J8 and 21?

I have an I-61, but for some reason really dont trust it.

A few rolls will tell you if your I-61 is OK - if it is there is nothing to not trust.

I can whole-heartedly recommend the 21/4 - when I first got mine it was as addictive like crack-cocaine. And still would be if I hadn't had to sell it. No need to focus, just guess and the external viewfinder is amazing.

Its all good. Like i said I'd love new equiptment but cant spend any money. Im lucky the wife let me get the K100. She is preg so I obviously wanted it to take pics of the baby 🙂

You should be able to trade your 40/1.4 for a 21/4, Don, maybe even have some money left over.

I'd love to walk around NYC with a 21.

50/75 isn't all that close but i agree that 40/75 gives you more options.
and the 40 actually seems a bit long, i have read that it's closer to a 43, so not really all that far from a 50.
as one who acts on gut feelings i say do what feels good.

though i have seen some nice pics from it.

I seem to end up actually using 35-50-75 don’t you think you’ll miss the semi-wide?

Too many decisions.... The 40 is almost like a normal with a step back and the 75 is like a normal with a little extra reach....

The 50 and 75 - just a couple of steps forward if you're taking shots of people. If you're not using the 40 much now, you're probably even less likely to use a 50. I'd stick with the 40/75 combo. IMO, the 40 is the better lens, too - sharper and more compact.

As some have suggested, I echo the recommendation of picking up a Jupiter-8. The adapter might cost you more than the lens, though.

And save your pennies for a 25/4. 25/40/75 is a great combo.

How is the Skoper 50?

Hey, I may--MAY--be interested in a trade. Seeing as how I stupidly sold my 40/1.4, and happen to have the Nokton 50/1.5. Now I like this lens, and I'm not a hundred percent sure I'd trade it, but they are more or less equivalent in price. I have the slotted lens hood for the 35 that fits the 50. It's not a perfect fit, like, it doesn't bayonet on but tightens with a screw, and I'd recommend using a UV or other filter and tightening onto that, but it does work as advertised. So we should chat, privately, I guess. Like I said, I'm just considering this, seeing as how I've ordered an R3M with its 40mm 1:1 v/f.

Well the only Voigtlander lenses that are uncoupled are the 25mm Snapshot Skopar, and the 12mm and 15mm ultrawides. That leaves the 21mm, the pair of 28mm's, the slew of 35mm's. all coupled

Depending on what camera you have, you could get a 28mm field of view with the built-in rangefinder. M6, M7

Frankly, I think a 21 is too wide for street photography. And I have done my fair share.

Sure it's not in the ball pack $$$-wise but the single best lens for street photography is the Tri-Elmar.

More on topic -- I bought and sold the 40mm. Not useable on my Leicas. (I also sold the matching Bessa). I just bought a 50mm Nokton and come the evening the Tri-Elmar comes off and the Nokton goes on my M7.
