i always have great fear the push on hoods will fall off.

my 85/2 hood is a push on.

i know that the rectangular hoods use the push on adapter.
but that thing is huge, i think the 35/2 lens could fit INTO the hood. :)

joe
Just a piece of metal. Pick it up, squeeze the friction fit a little tighter and push it back on?

I've got a clamp-on hood on my Summaron...I'm always worried I'll lose it: major $$

...plus I think it's essential in typical New Mexico outdoor light.

** Rover... Thanks! Just ordered from your link...funny, I already have a Kodak Series VI 42mm adapter ( for a Century Graphic's 80 2.8 Heligon)....AND Kodak VI hood (will probably vignette 35)

Adapter by itself makes 1/4" of extra "hood" ...good, except for lack of UV filter.

Kodak hood barely intrudes into the P field of view (half as much as Nokton), mounted on Summaron with VI adapter fitted on Leica clamp-on adapter (rube goldberg perfect fit).

Further step may be to find / modify and epoxy a hood on *outside* of VI adapter...to avoid vignetting...but I'll test that Kodak-Kodak-Leica-Summaron combo first...leica 35 presumably has the same angle as Canon 35 :)

** I wish I knew the *depth* of that ridiculou$ Canon jewel at Ritz ...any ideas? I can ask Ritz...they sold me my used Nokton (real deal).

Sometimes I wish I was a machinist.

** Joe, please ignore my message... unless you have an even better solution in your collection :)

djon, I have a Canon Series VI hood which is very shallow compared to the Canon Hoods. I don't think it would vignette on the 35. I also don't think the 35/2 needs much of a hood due to the deeply recessed front element. I think the Series sets are best for these old Canon lenses as it does allow for the use of filters. Most of the series filters I have gotten have been hazed, but clean up very well with the pre moistened eye glass cleaners I get at Walmart. Bausch and Lomb brand I believe. I wouldn't do this to a lens element, but not bad for an old filter.

Rover, B+W makes VI UV filters...I happen to have one on that Heliar :)

I think Leica did/does as well.

john,

i'm not sure what could be better.

i have a hood made for a 35mm lens that fits perfectly and takes a series 6 uv filter, which i was giving to you.

joe

...thanks Joe...

CORRECTION/News flash...my VI UV from B+W isn't ser 6, instead it's 46mm...close, no cigar. Came with a nice little collapsible rubber hood...I think this is a Canon G3456 digicam accessory...it's clearly designed for wide-angle because the front edge of the filter is sharply tapered....I'll bet a VI adapter can be machined to fit, if I can find somebody who'll play ball cheaply enough. That'd be cool...a collapsible wide angle hood

ok, just to BE CLEAR,

here's a few pics showing the hood, the adapter and filter - this will work on a 35mm lens with a 40mm filter size.
the pic shows it in 3 parts and then put together.

the other pic shows 3 more hoods that would also work on a 35mm lens with a 40mm filter size.

nothing needs to be added, adapted, bolted, screwed or welded to make them work.

they just screw onto the lens as is.

I've ordered every possible Series 6 adapter and UV filter (including a used Leica Series V1) plus B+W 46mm UV/rubber hood plus 40-46 adapter. Went nuts. I'll post notes about what I find the best solution.

Probably should have taken Joe's Gandy/40mm advice, but my two hoods arrived today from Americo Falcone (true name probably Bob Smith) of Caracas Venezuela. Much more convenient than my local camera store, actually. Three week delivery, exactly as he advised.

Both hoods are better-built than the old Leica rectangle I once had. The Nicca, in particular, couldn't be nicer...beautiful fitting and finish. Need to own a Nicca.

These are for my Canon 35 f2...which NEEDS a hood.

One is very compact, rectangular clamp-on. Fits perfectly, looks great, doesn't cut much into the view... don't know about vignetting. Looks like an old Rollei hood. It's a Nicca! Rare, right? But if it vignettes as I expect...it may be too deep... I may have the sides cut back by 3/8".

The other is a squeeze-on (no screw), but it's spring loaded and very tight. Typical vented hood. Kenko (that's old Canon sister brand, right?). May be less likely than the Nicca to vignette, but it's more bulky. If it works I may simply EPOXY (yikes!) it to the B+H UV (yikes! yikes! yikes!), making it a screw-in that'll always be aligned properly. Guess that'd work with the Nicca as well, and that's more critical because it's not vented and is rectangular so needs to be aligned properly.

Neither cuts as much into the image as my Nokton 50 hood.

For now, neither one leaves the house without a leash to my camera strap.

$46.76 for both including shipping from Venezuela.

I've double posted. So sue me
