50mm Hexanon f1.2 shooters with M8

Just wanted to see how many on this forum are using this lens with the M8. I have been considering the Noctilux, but there is much to this lens as well, and it is cheaper. How satisfied has everyone been with this lens? How sharp is it at all f stops? How is the build quality? How well does it focus with the M8? How is the contrast?

I got this combo and will upload some shots I made yesterday evening visiting a carnival fair.

Will probably manage tomorrow evening, as I have family duties in day time.

The lens is awesome and it does a great job on the M8, the 1.33 factor makes DOF just a little bit deeper, a joy to use! Well balanced too.

I am extremely satisfied with the lens

How sharp is it at all f stops?

I think it is very sharp WO and it gets sharper as you stop down. I haven't seen a sharper 1.2 or faster lens at full aperture. It has a very modern look.

How is the build quality?

It seems as good as any Leica I have owned, or even Canon 😉

How well does it focus with the M8?

Mine focuses perfectly with the M8, but that is after a DAG adjustment - some seem to need it and others don't.

How is the contrast?

Hi, good choice of lens. 1.2 is sharp but dont compare it to a summilux!

also, earlier numbers tend to back-focus on M8 and needs adjustment. But on film bodies will work just fine.

While I dont have it, I too periodically think about getting this lens. I have 4 other m-hexanons and I'm overall a big Konica fan. However, in case of this lens I cant seem to make up my mind. I know its sharp. I know it's modern. Yet something is missing. I think my Hex 50/2 has more character, at least to me. For faster lens, I have Canon ltm 50/1.2 - has a lot more flaws, but character is there. I have CV 35/1.2 - great lens, sharp, great signature - but it's better to me as its easier to focus wide open as its 35mm vs 50mm, it has closer min focus - .7m vs .9m (correct me if I'm wrong here), and is much cheaper.
If I could find Hex 50/1.2 for the price of CV 35/1.2, I'd probably get it, but as it is I'm still unsure about it.
Great lens, though. Maybe one day I'll break down and get one.

I have the CV as well. I find the Hexanon noticeably sharper at 1.2, considerably higher quality build (of course!), and, more surprisingly, it even seems a bit faster. Both produce that modern look, so don't sell your Canons in either case.

But the CV is less than half the price. And 35mm is very handy on the cropped digital.

Also, it's not just the early Hexanons that could need adjustment for an M8. Late serial numbers may have the problems as well.
