Hi there,
Not too long ago bought a lovely Planar 50/2 for my M6. I'm very happy with it. I didn't have much experience with fixed focal lenses before, and used to shoot on the wide end with zoom lenses. However, somehow, it turns out that 50mm matches the vast majority of things I shoot today, and I can say that I'm definitely a 50mm guy.

From the handling point of view, the 50mm on my camera works fine. I manage to focus acurately, the framelines are large enough, and I feel good with it. The only annoying thing is the parallax. I haven't conducted a controlled experiment, but I see in the results that usually I get much more than I frame.

I don't know if that makes sense, but I think I get more than I frame for both "near" and "far" frames. I should point out that I wear thick glasses (more than -7 diopters) and that my eyesight, even when wearing glasses isn't too good.

What can I do? Any tips on how to characterize the parallax and learn to correct it? Can anyone characterize it from personal experience?

Please, don't tell me to buy another camera for 50mm. I'm really comfortable with my M6, and I like it.

Thanks and good night

The issue has nothing to do with parallax here. The framelines (and many threads can be found discussing this "issue") on the film Leica rangefinders are intended to show the area that would show, at under 1m focusing distance, in the image area of a mounted slide.

Focusing farther will bring about "more" image outside of the framelines.

Parallax

well, maybe I don't fully understand the term parallax.
I'm aware that RF's usually frame generously (or pesimistically if you prefer).
However, I notice that on the 50mm lens the difference between what I frame and what I get is much bigger than on 35mm lens.

It was also mentioned here Harry Lime in a previous thread that other cameras are better in this aspect than the M6.

I've found this to be the case too with the M3, M2, M7 and M8; using a 35mm lens shows this even more evidently. And the case is made when I use a 40mm lens with 35mm framelines, and it is perfect when focusing at and beyond ~2m
